Post subject: Suggestions for a double deck idea?
Archived from groups: rec>games>trading-cards>magic>misc (more info?)

Greetings everyone,

I'm trying to put together two decks as a christmas present for a pair
of friends of mine. One has been playing Magic for a while now, but we
only got the boyfriend to try out Magic a couple of weeks ago (so he
understands the game, but the decks shouldn't be over-the-top
complicated).

What I'm looking for are two cool deck concepts that work well
together (as a team) *and* against each other (for a duel, if no other
opponent is available).

For example, the very first idea I had was two sliver decks. IMHO
slivers are very "cool", and they are pretty much the archetype of
synchronized decks, since each sliver on either side immediately
powers up all slivers of /both/ team members. But unfortunately they
don't play very well against each other, since (depending on the
slivers on the table) you either get a stalemate where no one can win
easily, or a rush-all-in situation in which the player who gets his
next attack step first wins (e.g. if slivers become unblockable), all
depending just on the luck of the draw.

Any ideas for such a pair of decks? Thanks for any suggestions!

Have you thought maybe of giving them -five- decks? One of each color, all
made only out of commons? That'll exhibit the strengths of each color
individually ... and point out the weaknesses of each one against two of
the others, without bringing in the specific color-spoiling cards (which
are generally uncommons). Plus it'll be inexpensive. Smile
