First of all , although this game got 10's all over the place, its far
from perfect. First in race modes when you get killed you should
respawn at last check point with the vehicle you chose at the
beginning... NOT a scooter. Next the Waypoint markers should be a
different color other than yellow as its hard to see in daytime. And
last but not least, the idea to have the option of having pistols with
heavy weapons is dumb in MP Since if your put in such a game your
always forced to look for a better weapon as you always spawn with
pistols...those are the top 3 complaints but there are more that
really need to be fixed. Oh and how great would it be to have the same
type of replay mode as halo 3 has? |

Halo, Schmalo... I agree with you in that there are a lot of faults to this
game... sure it's technically superior to SA, but better? No. SA is better
than this game. I mean I could go on and on about what you can do in SA and
what you can't do in IV. IV is technology over story, SA is story over
technology. |

actually, when it came out SA was easily the best looking etc of the
games so far, so really at the time it wasn't the case.
I'm still bugged by next gen games which really do seem to be all
about looks.

Why do you have to ruin it for me, Paul??? I was all set to defend SA
against what I thought would be an onslaught of IV... and here you go and

Not really. SA was land mass over technology. Vice City was story over land
mass.
Each of these games pushes a particular envelope- and in SA it was simply
the scope for exploration. A lot of cool things disappeared (such as
rampages) and there were welcome and unwelcome additions (such as swimming
and girlfriends, respectively), but the "plot" in SA is pathetic compared to
earlier incarnations of the game. This thread is exactly the same as the SA
thread that ensued just after its PS2 release, while us PC users waited for
that version. I still remember trolls griping about the main character being
black. I remember the misgivings about a largely rap-based soundtrack, after
the wonderful radio stations in VC.
All you people complaining about the faults and shortcomings of GTAIV will
be doing exactly the same when GTAV is released, and comparing it to the
great storyline and characters in GTAIV. |

Sorry, but I have to disagree. I don't have any affinity for these
characters, I am often working with people who I would rather have the
option to at least give a good slap to, the accents are wearing on my
nerves, and I really don't have the urgency to play this one as I have
with most of the others.
Having said that there are still flashes of great humour, stunning
graphics, some interesting story lines and lots of other stuff to
like.
BTW I was one of the people who grumbled about the black thing in SA,
but mainly as the violence level seemed to have been ramped up. What i
should have said though, and it is true of GTAIV, is that a lot of the
humour in these games comes from their very un PC attitude, jokes are
based pretty much around national/racial characteristics and in jokes
on the locations/situations. I personally think CJ was the best all
round character we have had.

I'm going to jump on your bandwagon, Paul. I didn't have any problem with
the story and characters being black... I actually thought that was very
GTA, no offense to black people...
CJ was a much better protagonist than Nico.... Sure his whole reason for
coming back to SA kind of got lost but is Nico's any clearer? I'm a broken
record- I miss jump jets, jet packs, parachutes, go-karts, hover craft, Sam
Jackson, James Woods, Gun ranges, work-outs, degrees of expertise in weapons
and motorcycles... ETC, ETC, ETC. In IV I can't even catch "Jayvon" on a
motorcycle... |

I am really beginning to appreciate the car handling in IV but the
bikes just seem to lock up and slide all the time, and there's always
cars throwing themselves at you at just the right speed to catch you
out... it's a bitch.

I agree withyou on that one. I can't seem to get the last mission and
if I could I'd get 100% completion. Is ther a way thouh to go back to a
previous mission if the storyline gets too hard to do?

The one thing I really hate about the bikes is that you can be going at
speed, but if you lean forward to gain speed, the bike kicks out from under
you, sending you this way and that.... |

I've only seen GTAIV in action over someone's shoulder. I won't be playing
it 'til it's out on PC.
All I was commenting on was that with SA there was initially a similar
backlash to the story/characters/music/losses, and welcoming of the little
extras, when it came out. That dwindled into general acceptance quite
quickly, and the same will happen with GTAIV's complaints, to the extent
that when GTAV comes out (or the next location variation that uses the GTAIV
engine), that too will be compared unfavourably, but this time with the
GTAIV you're all playing now.
I was ambivalent about CJ throughout the whole of SA. He was weak and ambled
from mission to mission, pushed and pulled by the support cast, with no
clear direction. Tommy and Claude had primal motives for what they were
doing, and it sounds like Niko does too. That can only be a good thing, even
if the motives themselves are unpleasant. |

I really have to disagree with you here. Every GTA up until now as added
features... GTA IV is the first game to eliminate features from the previous
games. I don't think that those eliminations will be forgiven. What did we
gain? Graphics... that's really it. I mean in SA we could own businesses,
grab a plane and fly out to sea as far as we wanted... GTAIV is all about
limitations... While IV is a marvel, no doubt, SA is far superior

Wow, I have to respectfully disagree. CJ had the clearer mission, which
wasn't that clear. But Tommy? He was supposed to find out about some
stolen drugs, and ended up running Vice City? |
