| Hi,
I loved NWN2 and Mask of the Betrayer, great games. I was looking at
Storm of Zehir (as well as Mysteries of Westgate), and wondered how
they were? Are they worth investing in?
Thanks

There is a thread starting back at 1st June on this if you can find it..
Was strated bt Wolfing who there said (copied below here)

I got NWN2 years ago when it was released. Played it for a bit and
abandoned it (couldn't get used to the controls). A few months ago I
started again, luckily by then I had new options for party control
(basically, detach camera from PC) that allowed me to play the game.
Still, I found myself almost forcing me to keep playing, which I
eventually did. Then I continued with Mask of the Betrayer, which I
liked even less (I just don't like the munchkinism of the epic levels
in D&D in general), but I kept on playing. Last Thursday I finished
it and installed SoZ... AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE!
- Make your own party. It's been so long since I had this feeling,
spending hours trying to come out with a party configuration I want,
but even worse, since now each character can have prestige classes (to
maintain my sanity I restricted myself to 2 classes and 1 prestige
class). AWESOME
- Start the game, I'm not part of any prophesy with a big destiny to
save the world! I'm just a bunch of adventurers doing their own stuff.
AWESOME
- You die and... you die! AWESOME!
- Establish a trading empire... AWESOME!
- Try resting 5 minutes after you rested and... you can't! AWESOME!
I'm really loving this game, originally I thought I wouldn't like it
because of its open-world approach, but it's ok, I don't explore away
from the road and I always have stuff to do telling me where to go so
it's not so open as to make me uncomfortable like in other games.
I do miss inter-character interactions though, but guess you can't
have both.

I was put off by the ending of NWN2 and so never got Mask of the
Betrayer. However, I recently bought Storm of Zehir and found it much
more to my liking - it's a far more open world than the first game,
with new overland map, trading and item creation mechanics that are
quite interesting. I can't say how well it will hold my attention
long-term, but I bought it on special and feel I've certainly got my
money's worth out of it. |

I just couldn't bring myself to finish NWN2. I re-installed it a month or so
ago with my old saves I think around act 3. I played it for a few days and got
bored again. Strange as I loved NWN and must have played literally hundreds of
fan modules. |

To follow up on this, I loved the game until the very end... which I
couldn't finish. The last fight is so incredibly difficult (to my
lowly lvl 15 or so party) that, after like 20 attempts I just gave
up. When I checked online for hints on what to do, most said their
group was like level 17-18 (some even had epic level chars there),
which is a problem since this game is 'open-ended', you could be much
less than that if you used your skills to not fight many random
battles outdoors.
Other than that last fight, I maintain my opinion the game is great.
It's just a pity I can't finish it. |
