I haven't played for a while, but having installed mansion and garden stuff,
which I got for Christmas, I decided it was time to catch up with the
families in the neighbourhood I had been playing. The first lot I visited
was quite normal. No sim did what I wanted, when I wanted, but they did did
it in a usual way.
The second house seemed fine. Mum stayed home and earned a logic skill
point. Teen daughter and husband came home, and they all had lunch, and
chatted a bit, teen daughter called her brother to chat. She wants to be an
ecological guru, so after a while I sent her to earn a bit of body skill.
She just had 3 points. I wasn't watching her, but the screen started
flashing up points earned. In under an hour she'd maxed body, on the
exercise bike.
She's one lucky little sim, but I have no idea how she managed that. No-one
else was doing so well.
Odd things happened to my pc too. I took a screen cap but while PSP agrees
there is something to paste, it won't do it, I have to use Paint. And while
I was playing the screen resolution dropped. Anyone else had odd things
like that happen?

Well, sims do learn speeds at different rates, even with no
multipliers because their personalities/stats have bonuses/minuses for
some skills. Mood now affects how fast skills are learned. Then
there is residual smart milk effects in children (but not teens, I
think), vacation bonuses, secondary aspiration bonuses, business (OFB)
bonuses, seasonal bonuses, possibly mod bonuses, etc. I'd say about
10% of the sims learn some skill so much faster or slower than normal
that it is noticable (ie, a lot less than 100% and a lot higher than 1
in 1000). |

I'm pretty sure that's a bug. Of course now I can't remember where I
read that... either the Sporum or MATY, I'm sure. Couldn't have been
the official site, nonononononono...
And while
> I was playing the screen resolution dropped. Anyone else had odd things

I've had some weirdness with resolution... usually if I've walked away
from the computer long enough for the monitor to go into power saving
mode. That seems to bugger it up nicely (goes out of widescreen mode
even when the resolution is set for widescreen) and it takes a few
reboots to get it sorted. Now I turn the monitor off if I'm playing
but I'm going to be away from the computer for a while. Then before
turning the screen back on, I fiddle with the mouse and keyboard to
get it back to normal. Is weird.
I just picked up M&G stuff with a gift voucher today and am
downloading a no-cd as I type this. Being relatively new to the world
of no-cds (Free Time was my first one), I'm extremely paranoid about
this.

And replying to myself... Coincidentally I just had a similar problem
in my shiny new M&G, only my sim was doing yoga. Poking around on
MATY found this: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,13932.0.html
In other M&G borkinage, I can't place doors or windows. I can select
them in build mode but they won't come out into the world for me to
place them. I have no idea what could be causing this. It was a
brand new lot I had just placed so I'm completely stumped. I was
going to check out existing lots but I accidentally hit 'Exit' instead
of going back to the neighbourhood and couldn't be bothered waiting
for it to load again.
Thirdly, when I did exit from the game something had gone haywire with
my keyboard (typing 'o' brought up a save dialog, hitting 'esc'
brought up the start menu, weirdness like that). Rebooting the
computer fixed that problem - otherwise I'd be having a hell of a time
trying to type this!!

In my initial experiments, I have discovered that the telephones don't work
properly now (cannot make friendly calls to other sims anymore but can call
for other functions and to ask on dates) nor can my Sims call taxis after
dates without the lots freezing. I haven't tried building yet. In any
case, all downloads have been moved out and I am going back to testing from
square 1. Are there any fixes I have missed for either Ikea, Kitchen and
Bath or Mansions and Gardens? I had installed the last patch for Apartment
Life before adding the rest of the stuff packs and everything was working
quite well. The only new additions when I moved the downloads back in were
the corrections that Lord Darcy made. I have come to the conclusion that I
really don't play this game- I spend my spare time installing and diddling
with the installation- sort of like the kid that plays with the cardboard
box the toy came in. Then and again, it could be that I am simply not
bright enough to actually install it correctly.

As I recall, this sim didn't have the smart milk bug, even as a child. She
has a number has a good number of skill points, but not as many as her older
siblings managed at this age, and they are well spread across the board.
Many if my toddlers max ( or get to the 8 for a scholarship) mechanical
these days, given the right conditions, and the table, this gorl is only
halfway there after a childhood as well.
Her mood was a good/average. She was just gold, her hunger and socials were
full, everything else drifting down. There are no extra aspiration bonuses
from vacations, and it is winter. I don't do skill mods really - community
lot skilling, fine, but I don't need to speed them up particularly. What
with autumn and the education bookcase and the like, there is no need.
So I have a teenage sim with no mods that affect this ( aside from not
overheating, but she was barely in the red by the time she finished anyway )
in an ok mood, who had managed 3 body points ( swimming I think - and in
fact I sent her to get in the pool, not to use the bike, she chose
otherwise! ) up to now at a normal enough speed, who knocked off 6 to 7 body
points in an hour. I had aimed at 1, maybe 2 if she was close to the 4th
when she started. Very odd I think! I shall have to see what her parents
do, though they are well up on body already - dad is in the army.

Ah, lovely. Thankyou! Searching at MATY can be such hard work
sometimes.
I wouldn't think to get alfixes for an M&G bug - but I hadn't applied the
latest AL patch before, and it got done when I installed M&G. It all makes
sense now!

Oh, I have done that too. My M&G doors came out alright, when I had a look
atthem, but I did have move_objects ON, because I had been messing with the
ivy, putting all 3 levels on one wall space. So I was able to stand the
doors on the floor.

That makes me feel better though, it hopefuly isn't our comptuers given
up.

I have one little problem with no cds, not insurmountable. Sometimes when I
click to start up the game I get a message about not being abole to find the
right DirectX driver or soemthing ( I forget exactly because I no longer
actually read it ) and I have to reboot the computer then it's ok.
And I don't know if it's the game, the no cd, or the resolution thing, but I
used to often minimise the game, then go back to it. Sometimes it meant
looking at the eggtimer for a little while while it reloaded, but it always
worked. These days it usually doesn't. Although it did last night when the
resolution thing hit in, mostly it crashes the game. And when the game
crashes, yup, I get that message and the game won't restart until I reboot.
I don't want to try running it from the disk to see if it is the no cd
casuing it though!

It's getting harder and harder to get all the right fixes, I think.
I haven't tried proper building yet with M&G and have played 2 families for
a day each. The family with the fast skilling daighter were able to call
and chat to other sims in the normal way, but as I hadn't sent them on a
date I don't know about taxis. The other lot just did stuff like go to
work, have a baby grow up, try to teach their dog to Stay. That was fine.
Though the parents were obsessed with bothering the toddler who wouldn't go
to sleep on the floor blanket and I don't know why. Maybe /because/ they
were obsessed with bothering her!

Which makes sense whenyou think about it.
Happily her mother, at a similar level , took quite a while to get one body
point so that's ok. I played another 3 days in that house and things were
normal.
And I don't know know if it was the reinstall, but the butler reappeared -
he'd been missing all day, not a sign of him, Not that he is doing much.
He heads up ot the ensuite bathroom, cleans it, and stays there most of the
day! He hasn't cooked a tv dinner all week.

I killed off the icky Ottams adults way back when and put the kids up
for adoption. Pascal Curious adopted Sharla. She doesn't have memories
of her prents but she does of her siblings....she had wants to play with
them for a couple of days but that went away as she made new
relationships with her stepsisters and parents...I am wondering if I may
not have painted myskef into a genetic corner with the influx of so much
Curious, Goth, and Dragonwold blood in the hood...my fairies woohoo
whatever comes along that looks good..the elves tend to keep to
themselves but they are a small group so will genetically run out of new
material if I don;t take action... |

I killed off Grandma Ottomas, and the mother before she had the twins, and
kept dad around while the kids grew up, then he met with an accident too.

woohooing Tommy.
I really need to do a family forest and see who is related to whom before
the next lot grow up.
