Hello,

Looking at LDDB, I see there are two Criterion editions of "Singin' in
the Rain": no. 52 and no. 52A.

Is it the case that the one disc version is the same transfer, just
without the extras (and in CLV as opposed to CAV in the double disc
set).

Will the CAV version be noticeably better?

I see there are other Crit. LDs where there is a one disc set and a
two disc set. Did they often release a film-only and film-with-extras
set?

Thanks.

Dunno much 'bout the movie, but according to this:

<http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0045152/laserdisc>

The Criterion version isn't all that good. Sony pressing?

Usually, and likely in this case.

CAVs of the same transfer are rarely "worse",
but it does happen. I've seen the CC CLV Singin, and
can't comment on that.

I can say that 3M CLVs are generally worth avoiding.
My impression is that 3M didn't do CAA, only pure CLV,
and the 3M CLVs that I have have more cross-talk.
3M CAVs, on the other hand, tend to be excellent.

My recollection is that they did.

The CAV of Singing is a 3M casting, by the way.
(3M didn't "press" LDs.)

CLD-959 (CLD-97/98) circuit diagrams - Hi, Just recently had this player modified for AC3 playback. It's a Japanese player (which is essentially an American CLD-97 or CLD-98) My mate has just posted asking for circuit diagrams, as I wasn't sure how to use the newsgroups, but I've now got....

LDs to DVDs / avisynth - Whoever is converting LDs to DVDs via Tuner card and using AVISynth filters, I got a question... What noise reduction to use? The one that found on LD player internally (just output with noise reduction)... Or output without noise reduction and use..
