I'm just kidding about the ostracization thing, I only do that to
trolls and obvious pirates really. People who rely solely on emulation
(including compilation discs) are robbing themselves and poisoning the
well of public opinion for these older games though. If it makes you
feel any better, I have to use E-bay to buy anything second hand,
everything locally is torn up, cart only, or overpriced. I've pretty
much been relying on sites like genkivideogames and e-bay for about
eight years now.
I was really shocked at how much easier something like Dracula X
Chi no Rondo was on the actual hardware verses Magic Engine. I don't
ever want to own over 600 games or so at once, but I enjoy collecting
the ones I know I will play and trading off the chaff periodically.

Where in the world do you live? Even in the backwater part of Florida
that I park my car in, there are independent game stores that service the
self-proclaimed hardcore gamer. Got a nice, minty complete copy of
Suikoden II from a place called Game Over, which always has a ton of old
Sega stuff lying around too. There's a new chain called Play N Trade that
has a dubious reputation, but the older stores in the franchise all have
buckets of 8-bit stuff. And the flea markets are full of guys trying to
sell unopened games from five years ago, when speculation was at its
height. It's definitely a buyer's market where I am.

-KKC, who may have to scale back purchases once he gets the car repair
bill.

Here in Texas I think all anybody ever played was Nintendo and then Sony
stuff. That's all I see in pawn shops, and most of the mom&pop shops
have been put out of business in recent years. I got so sick of seeing
stacks of PS1+2 games, a few rows of cart only SNES and NES stuff and
then Madden and NHL Genesis titles that I stopped looking sometime last
year. A friend of mine has made it a hobby to hit all of the pawn shops
in the area every week, he still only finds good Sega stuff ones or
twice a month, whereas he buys mainstream stuff several times a week.

New car purchase got me. I'll be down until new years at this rate.
