My first thought on seeing this was that you were trying to trick us!
The USSR launched their spacecraft from what is now Kazakhstan. Once
it (Kazakhstan) became in independent country, it became the third
country from where spacecraft have been sent toward the moon (even
though it is Russia that is using the launch facilities).
The answer to this question could be the country that owns the rocket
or the country from where the rocket is launched.

But then, you could fairly ask "Were any of the rockets launched by
Russia from Kazakhstan destined for the moon?". I don't know the
answer.

Never mind that, the real question is why nobody is pointing out that
the question is wrong? The first 13 states joined the US in 1776.
Some date in July, I hear.

The question could have been more specific, but I think the intent is
clear (especially since it's the order in which the state quarters were
released). Wikipedia calls the date "Admission to Union".
The answer to Jeff's question is 40 (the two-worders being the 4 "New",
2 "North", 2 "South", and 1 "West" states plus Rhode Island).

Sure. It seems to be a product of a certain kind of uniformity-loving
mind, but it's common to see US states ranked in order of ratification
of the Constitution for the first 13 followed by order of admission to
the union for the rest, and that's obviously what you were doing.
Even if you argue that the Constitution created a new entity by the
same name and "US" refers to that, it required ratification by 9 states
before taking effect, so at least the first 9 joined simultaneously.
> Wikipedia calls the date "Admission to Union".
And reputable sources call it what it is.
> The answer to Jeff's question is 40 (the two-worders being the 4 "New",

Nope; he said "were". There were originally 6 one-word states
(Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and
Virginia), of which Georgia was [pause to look it up] the 3rd to
ratify the Constitution.
ObTrivia: There seems to be an omission in my list of one-word original
states -- why isn't it an error?
