Running into a network issue with my 5040s...
I have owned a 5040 for a long time that connects wirelessly to my
network router through a wireless bridge. This has worked fine for
years for both nightly downloads and IVS.
I recently purchased a second 5040 for the same network. The setup is
as follows:
(1) First 5040 was unplugged from the wireless bridge.
(2) The first and second 5040s were then placed on a 5-Port Switch and
the uplink for the switch now plugs into the bridge; basically they now
share the wireless connection through the switch.
Both 5040s can get their nightly downloads from the net, but I have had
issues with IVS sharing since I've moved to this new set up. IVS users
cannot detect my unit when they test for it on the net. Has anyone else
seen this issue? Any fixes?
Facts:
- Both 5040s have separate fixed IP addresses.
- Both 5040s are on separate share ports.
- The wireless router in another part of the house is port forwarding
the the ports to the proper IP addresses.
- Network Bridge is a WET54G. |

The bridge has nothing to do with forwarding. If you can connect but IVS
does not work, your forwarding rules are incorrect, or the Replays'
networking is not set up correctly. |

Tony,
Let me clarify. The port forwarding is a setting on the Router, not on
the Bridge. The Router setting for the original 5040 has not changed,
and worked fine for IVS in the recent past (on default port 29000). The
only change has been that I have added the second unit on it's own port
in the router (port 29001), but now neither can been seen by the IVS
servers, but they work 100% of the time for downloads.

Try port 39000. It works for me. Good luck! |

I know what port forwarding is. Then the Replay network is not set
correctly. The Replays should be set to fixed and the router should be
set to reserve those IPs for the Replays. Reboot the router and then
reboot the Replays. |

Well, since we both know what port forwarding is, I can assure you they
are both set correctly. I've checked it many times. Again, the single
ReplayTV has had the same fixed IP and port forward setting for 4 years
and has never had issues with IVS. I can understand having issues on
the new machine, but not on the old one that hasn't changed settings. |

Yes, set address reservation on the router. AFAIK there is no
additional benefit to setting fixed on the Replay(s). |

Gary,
I've historically given my ReplayTV units fixed IP addresses on my old
router because while the old router supported DHCP, it did not support
IP reservation. My latest router which I've had for about 1 1/2 years
can perform IP reservation, so I will try your idea to convert them to
reserved DHCP IP addresses.
Just for info, the new router worked fine with IVS under a fixed IP
addresses with both old and new routers, but I'll try the DHCP reserved
setting to see if it triggers anything.
