Ok, I'm bored of constant errors, taint and bugs in my mods, so can anyone
recommend non-bugged replacements for the following?
CT PartyBuffs - basically need it to show buffs under party members in the
default Blizz UI, if it puts ones I can cast first, all the better. I just
tonight discovered that this is the mod that's causing me to get
minifreezes every time someone joins or leaves a BG, so if anyone else has
that problem, there's your culprit...
CT UnitFrames - mostly redundant since the default UI has nearly all of it,
but I want to keep the little bit that shows the class/mob type of my
target above the target frame.
In fact if I remove those two there's only a couple of other CT functions I
still use so I may just remove it completely given the lack of development
of late; any suggestions for co-ordinates on map, moving quest tracker, and
putting levels in the quest log?
PartyBars - I know there's several others but most of them look complicated
with loads of extra options, and I like the simplicity of PartyBars...
unfortunately it's not been updated since TBC release and taints everything
in sight so... something similar would be great. Simply put, bars attached
to each party member that apply to that member, so I click heal button next
to the 3rd member, it heals the 3rd party member. Some kind of functioning
range check would be nice, but not essential; I'm used to not having one on
it at all currently.
I like to keep my UI as simple as possible, to minimise new errors, so
basic very simple mods are ideal for me, I end up with a lot of little mods
that do useful things, but the way CT Mod has gone of late is a good
example to me of why big packages that do loads of things aren't great, too
many things to bug out it seems :-/ Thanks in advance for suggestions

I think Cartographer will do that. (I've got it and AlphaMap from Cosmos
and they both put coords in the same place, so I have to disable one.) I'm
looking for something to show my current coords under the minimap. |

I personally use diMapCoords, which shows current coords on the main map
and under the minimap.

I replaced the complete CT_Mod a year ago and started using x-perl
unitframes. that was at a time when ct had some performance issues.
the newest version even includes a range checker. it's also nice for
decursing. it will show you a lot of information about someone if you wish,
and has some healer mode which will show deficits instead. whats also nice
is the grim reaper module, where you can see exactly why someone died
afterwards.
if you are looking into replacing all of your mods, you might also want to
look into the option of switching to ace addons completely (x-perl is not
one of them) because the ace updater (which requires .net) then could all
your mods uptodate in no time. (ora2 would be the raidframe addon)
you'll find them on www.wowace.com
grid is another thing which might be useful (if i still were a healer i'd
defenately try it out) |

Already using grid I'm using quite a few ace addons, will probably look
at them closer and see what's got replacements for the functionality I
need; they all seem fairly bugfree which is always a good sign, just a
shame their site is a massive headache to navigate - I'll never understand
why the info pages about each addon don't include a clear link to where to
download it, and then the forum threads for comments are in a totally
different place again. If they just gave it a layout like the other mod
sites with all info and download links in one place it'd be great

i noticed that aswell really, since i'm not using the updater.
i think if you use it the navigation of the site becomes far less
important.
if you haven't tried x-perl yet i'd say have a look (not an ace addon,
you'll find it @ curse) |

True but I don't like using auto updaters, prefer to know what I'm
downloading.

What exactly does it do? I'm not interested in big complicated mods that do
a ton of stuff I don't want, just want a few specific features.

Very true. I installed an updater (might have been from Curse?) that
promptly downgraded several of my mods to older versions because their
repository wasn't current.
Uninstalled 5 minutes later and restored my backups... Now I just check up
on the mods I use every few weeks - it's not like not having the bleeding
edge stuff suddenly makes my game not work.

it's a mod that really shine's. i like it a lot and the people in my raid
would like to have it but dont use it because it's not an ace addon which
they can download via the autoupdater.
as i feel pretty much the same like you do about that (although the main
reason ist .net beeing a requirement) i dont have to limit myself with ace
addons.
well as i said, grim reaper pretty much shines in investigating any players
death. (like mt blaming a healer, you'll see exactly what caused his death,
either heal was too low or he might have forgotten to keep shield block up
and had 2 crushing blows in a row) that you will see by mouseover on the
target after death. that feature pretty much kicks ass.
the raidframe easily displays the buffs your class can buff (if not a
raidleader you can just limit the buff display to buffable ones)
as for dispelling decursing it will fill that players field with a specific
colour (green for poison, blue for magic, purple for curses etc) displays
running hots. and i like that healermode especially which will fill out the
field with deficit rather than the other way around. although i don't heal
anymore i still have that healermode turned on
youll have castbars für everyone (above player or mob you targeted) and
targets target displayed. aswell as ct compatible mt targets.
ok you have a lot of settings but compared to other mods it does not make
major modifications to the standard ui and i consider it to be lightweight
compared to other mods. but it does a little more than supply you with
raidframes |

I suggest eXtreme Unit Buttons in place of PartyBars. It is pretty
nice once you get past the hurdle of figuring out how to configure
it.

Hmm, doesn't sound like it does anything I want that I don't already have
in other mods tbh, but I'll remember the name if I ever want anything it
does.

There is a java version that I use on my Mac - it is called
WowAceUpdater. I find it to be very useful as I do have a lot of ace
addons. It doesn't automatically update either you can get it to mark
updated mods and then uncheck the ones that you don't want to update
and then download all the marked mods. I use this feature because
have modified bartender a little so that the first bar is in a shape
that matches my Nostromo. I don't want to have to redo the change
every time so I don't update that mod so much.
Also, just because you have an auto updater doesn't mean that you can
only use mods it uses.
