I have obtained the elusive and thought to be nonexistent game box for
Ultima VIII: The Lost Vale.

I posted information and pics if anyone wants to see what it looks like on
my website at:

http://www.imaginationoverdrive.com/ultima.htm

An auction is available as of today at:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ONE-OF-A-KIND-Ultima-VIII-The-Lost-Vale-game-box_W...itemZ82

or just search ebay for 'lost vale'

I will check in here later and respond to any questions or feel free to
email me. I just wanted to show it to everyone but I got so many offers for
it I decided to auction it, being as I am just someone that loves the game
(bought Ultima 1 as a kid and played til UO) but not a collector.

It is a know fact Origin planed the Lost Vale, but as it was canceled
in an (as far as I know) early production stage, its unlikely they made
box-prints. How did you obtain this?

There was an interview (on Bootstrike?) with one of the production team. Not
only was the add-on completed, they even struck a gold master CD of the
program. Now where this master is, and who has it, is a very good question...
If Origin hasn't moved office since then, it might still be there...

The box may be a hoax, though.

I don't know how to verify the authenticity of the print, but whether or
not a cover was designed should be easy to check. Denis Loubet was
responsible for almost all the Ultima artwork. He regularly posts to
Usenet; someone could ask him if he produced the artwork shown on this
box. If so, then that would lend credence to the claim that a box was
designed, if not printed.

Regards,
Tristan

I just e-mailed him. Time will tell.
