Hi all
Just replaced by Geforce4MX (64 Mb video card RAM) in my 1Gz G4 FW800 tower
with a Radeon 9800 mac pro card (128MB RAM). I run 2x15' LCD monitors at
1024x768. However, after installing the latest drivers from ATI etc I did
xbench results and the OpenGL and Quartz test results were actually lower
than the previous and supposedly inferior Geforce card. I also tested xplane
and the frame rate was not changed at all between cards (19-22). Using a
single monitor made no difference either. Any clues as to why this new card
should perform so poorly.

No, sorry I don't, but I have heard others report problems with it and
complain loudly about ATI's less than stellar performance on addressing
problems with it (upgrading their drivers, etc.).

Hi Michael
I have found that while the framerate in xplane does not go up much you do
get lots more eye candy and can turn on things like anti-aliasing etc. There
is les of the fogging than before (when the graphics card decides it cant
show you anything you get fog). However, that is most likely due to the
extra memory. Part of the bottleneck is the processor (1Gz G4). I have
also hear it works much better on a monitor of larger size 1680x1050 for
example, while gains on a 1050x768 are modest.

You arse makes sense (sorry that's sounds wrong on so many levels).
However, the processor and bus are most likely the bottleneck and while the
card gives me more space to play with and some more detail the frame rate
still sucks. Is it me or is Xplane on the mac so much worse then a PC.?
