I apologize if it is a breach of etiquette to post an advertisement for
my auctions to this group. I looked for an FAQ, but was unable to find
one, so I figured I'd go ahead and post, in case any of you are
interested in these classic (early 1990s) adventure/rpg games by
Sierra. They are distinctly non-D&D, and are, in my humble opinion,
the height of early roleplaying games. It pains me to part with them,
but my computer has progressed to the point where I can no longer play
them (lacking a 3.5" drive), so I thought I'd offer them to others who
might still find some entertainment in them.

An interesting point there in Andy's first sentence. Is it okay to post
'adventure' games for sale or auction in this NG?

I often sell games on eBay but refrain from posting them here to avoid
offending anyone. But, if I had, say, Keepsake or Dreamfall, or, older
games like Inherit The Earth or Tex Murphy up for bids on eBay, would you
like to read about it here? Or, is this a can of worms best left unopened?

Just my opinion of couse, but if its an adventure game, and as long as
the seller doesn't post games for sale here on an ongoing frequent
basis, I wouldn't mind, but I don't think games posted on Ebay should be
posted here. People can always check Ebay, but some people might be
interested in buying games here before they are offered on Ebay.

I don't mind if they are for sale, with a stated price. Please leave ebay
auctions on ebay -- I see way too many people trying to boost their auction
price by spamming a newsgroup or two.

Like Murray, most people don't mind. However, *technically* it's not ok as
there are various 'marketplace' groups specifically for selling items,
including comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.marketplace.

I really don't care as long as they are really adventure games and not
action/adventures or RPG's or something. I don't bother looking at the
marketplace newsgroup because there is such a small proportion of
adventure games being sold.

Yes, and its all mostly the one company with various kinds of games. I
stopped checking marketplace. Its not much good any more.

True, but marketplace is not a very good place to sell games these days.
It used to be good a place few years ago, but there is mostly a company
who posts a lot of Ebay auction links there, and not many individuals
sell their games there.
So whether technical or not, it mostly depends on most people in the
group. I don't see that its such a bad thing as long as its adventure
games and as long as its not Ebay auction links.
