Just FYI...

P4 2.8 at 2.95
1 GB PC 3200 RAM
ATI 9700 Pro o/c 347.82/309.71

Playing SP and MP at 1024x768 High Quality

No AA nor AF. Don't know how to benchmark it yet, but it runs smooth so
far.

Wow that is a really good resolution for your system! Are you frame rates
fast? Did you ever play Doom3 on your rig and, if so, what did you run that
at?

Thanks, Chris

That makes me feel better. What about the speed of "always run"? Is it fast or slow?

Now what about the gameplay ? Just another warmed-over brain-dead
corridor shooter ? We don't really need yet another graphics hardware
benchmark...

Yes, I have Doom3 and played it at 1024x768 on medium, I think, on this
same set up? It seems Q4 is smoother than D3 for some reason.

Awesome! Groundbreaking! Genre-topping! We have a new benchmark in FPS!

Always run was slower than I expected. It's not as slow as D3, but not
as fast as Q3. SP run is good paced, IMO. MP run is like Q3, which is
fine by me. People who liked Q3 speed will like Q4 MP speed.

OK thanks. That is the bummer in Doom3... it is a walking pace and if I want it
faster I have to use the console to type " pm_walkspeed 250 ", or whatever #, but
every time it enters a level, no setting it in any cfg file and having stay that way.

Thanks for that tip, me and my Radeon 9800 appreciate it.

Sadly, it confirms my belief I'll be buying an Xbox 360 to play games
like this from now on. I just can't see laying $2,000 for a new PC.

Did you try the 5.10a or whatever Catalyst drivers? They are supposed
to give a nice speedup.

No, I didn't. Running 5.9 Catalyst, but will update later this evening,
thanks.

You're run speed gets increased when you 'get your legs'.. Wink

ATi are apparently about to release drivers which increase performance in
Doom III OpenGL with AA on by 35 percent ! They are in beta at the minute
and will be in Catalyst 5.11 in November apparently.

http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=3668

This will presumably help Q4 as well.

See the thread '(OT) JL - you missed some ATI news'. I 'think' it only
works with the new range of cards due to the new memory controller which is
programmable... Sad

Yes, only the x1600 and x1800 based cards will benefit from this large
increase, and more or less only when using high resolutions and/or AA
(ie situations which are memory bandwith limited).
