It's the only one that isn't. Anchorage, The Pitt and Zeta are
basically new maps, with a tie-in mission-trigger event to find in the
main map to transport you there.

You could get it now, or when you're on level 19, or shortly before
you complete the main game. Or after, but you'll have the end movie to
watch again.

I'm all about novelty game types and fast-paced mods.
My FPS DM greats are Q3A with Voosh, Q3A with instagib and the
off-hand grapple, UT with instagib and ludicrous gibs, and HL2 fan
made levels with loads of detritus to hurl around.
....which reminds me:
I'm playing HL2DM online (PC) tonight if anyone fancies a blast?

I was very clever and bought a cupboard to keep all my 360,
processor/amp, xbox and dvd player in.
Of course, now he's one, he knows how to open cupboards so loves

I've not played Fallout 3 but, surely, if you moved the camera and
adjusted the perspective the you could make it into an isometric game.

Trials HD. Played a bit of this, but not much as on Friday I impulse
purchased Batman: Arkham Asylum (360).
I've got this to say. It's my game of the year so far. So much love and
attention has been poured into this game. The graphics are good, the
animation flows nicely, the script isn't the cliche ridden nightmare I
expected, though Batman in exposition mode is a little prosaic. The
stealth is nicely handled in so much that you can't steam in against
armed guards but have to isolate them, but the means of dispatch at your
disposal are enough to keep it interesting and on numerous encounters in
the huge game world it becomes apparent half way through clearing a
large room that there numerous ways to go about the objective, from
silent or inverted takedowns, glide kicks, setting explosive charges or
grappeling them off ledges to their demise. The AI is quite good as well
and the unarmed combat is much more fulfilling than the button bashing
the demo would lead you to believe.

Can you swap the sticks in the full game? I couldn't in the demo. With
some third person games I like that setup. As it is I'd have to pass on
something that looks promising. |

Greenbelt (RL) - BEST. I saw Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Royksopp, Duke
Special, Athlete, Foy Vance and a hip-hop brass band. I heard a man talk about
quantum mechanics, another man talk about sanctions in Burma, another man talk
about the history of the Israel/Palestine situation, and listened to Margaret
Robertson (former editor of Edge) talk about how everyone is a gamer. And lots
more. And I didn't shower for four days.
Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS3) - Briefly. So far, it's ace. Hooray.

Personally loved The World Ends With You, also has one of the best
soundtracks to any game I've played.
Be warned though, there are reasonable long cut scenes that may not play
well with train journeys. But then again, you can always just snap shut the
DS and watch it on the way back/the next morning... |

Mr. Driller W (Wii Ware) - it's not bad, but I think only Mr. Driller

if you've not played it a fair bit. On Normal it was a bit of a
struggle to finish the last two levels, and on Expert I haven't
finished the *second* one. To be honest, I think I might have
preferred a straight port of the original, not least as none of the
levels in this is quite equivalent - but having said that, I think I
might have just gone off Mr. Driller quite a bit. I don't know what it
is, but somehow it just doesn't seem that much fun for me now.
Maybe I overplayed it on the Dreamcast and never really realised until
now... I have to admit, I hadn't played it much in years. Oh well.
PES 2008 (Wii) - more of Champion's Road, I made it through that

The terrible, awful voices in Mr. Driller W. Apparently Susumu is
three years old, and the Dig Dug guy is a reject from Gears of War.
The worst thing about it is the ridiculous noise your character makes
when they're below 30% air, which IMHO almost ruins the game on the
spot. It's hard to describe, but imagine a few different exaggerated
being-punched-in-the-gut kind of noises, being played roughly three or
four times a second until you die or get more air. That may not sound
too bad (so to speak) but in practice it's just excruciating. I think
a blackboard-scraping noise would have been preferable frankly.

Yeah, ours is pulling herself up now (8 months old a few days ago!) but my
sensor bar is on the top of the TV so she can't reach it. Concerned about
my amp though - I can't move it anywhere else and the "settings lock" only
applies to the remote so you can still press the buttons on the front.

Gang culture is still part of the modern world, so it's not possible to be
romantic about it for very long without seeing its real life impact. But
medieval fantasy is something that never actually existed, and for that
reason is much easier to idealise. Slaying dragons and saving princesses
is realy not all that far removed from cops and robbers or cowboys and
indians, to employ the metaphor of childhood play.
Science fiction is a different beast entirely, at least in my mind. The
best science fiction always takes a modern problem or conflict and removes
all the baggage from it so you can examine it without filters. You can't
hide behind nationalism if the invaders are Martians and not Soviets. You
can't take sides based on your own beliefs when the religious conflict is
Bajorans versus Cardassians. Allegory instead of idealism is how I
separate the two, but I find both equally entertaining. Also, I like to
see spaceship explosions.
