The demo for Pathologic has just been added to 3dgamers. This is one
that I have personally been waiting for. I hope it's going to be
better than the last few demos for the more obscure games that I have
been following recently.

It's a huge download at 651mb. I'll upload some gameplay footage
tomorrow.

Any reason why you think it will be good? A quick look at the
screenshots shows something that looks like a Half-Life 1 mod...

It seems to be a survival/horror type game as opposed to a bog
standard shooter. I like the premise behind the game.

"
In the depths of the Ancient Steppe appeared a weird town. Once a
small drover settlement scattered around the monstrous Abattoir, it
unexpectedly developed into a mysterious, isolated establishment with
an odd social structure. This odd society has managed to survive for
several generations. It could have continued to aspire, were it not
for a sudden outbreak of some enigmatic, lethal and inescapable
disease, which begins to mercilessly slaughter the denizens inhabiting
the area. Even science has proven helpless in finding a cure, or at
least providing some explanation.

....Three outsiders arrive in the contaminated town. The first was a
highly-educated Bachelor with a ruthless manner of investigation,
assigned by the provincial authorities. The second one is a
far-sighted Ripper with a reputation of an ingenious surgeon, in
search of his father's terrible heritage. The last character is an
eccentric girl, possessing mystic healing abilities, that could become
the town's heavenly salvation were it not for the constant fear in her
dejected eyes and fresh memory of the horrors of her recent past... "

Also I suppose, the increasingly forlorn hope that one of these more
obscure studios will come up with something different and exciting and
go on to better things.

Regarding the graphics, I believe that the game has been out in some
Eastern European countries since 2004. I don't mind "dated" graphics
so long as the game play makes up for it. Boiling Point is a great
example of such a thing.

To add a little more to my previous answer, the publishers website
http://www.gmxmedia.net/pathologic/ describes the game like this:

"A combination of first-person & role-playing game with non-linear
plot and real time flow gameplay.

The town has a life of its own, it constantly changes and reacts to
the player’s behaviour and circumstances.

Well-balanced proportion of random factors and pre-arranged event.;

Original enemy concept – omnipresent, omniscient, invisible infection.
3 unique campaigns, several endings.

Original graphic concept and photorealistic portraits of NPCs.

A complicated system of context-sensitive music arrangement. Artistic
sound direction.

A large variety of individual survival and resource-hunting strategies
under the resource hunger conditions;

3 heroes act independently: when one is chosen to play , the two
rejected heroes act on their own, plotting against the player.

Facial animation of the in-game characters powered by LifeStudio:HEAD
technology by LifeMode Interactive, Corp"

I really hope it plays as well as it sounds!

Please let us know what it is like. I normally play most of the demos
that come out, but since Oblivion arrived on my doorstep I don't want
to waste quality gaming time on something that isn't worthwhile Smile

I certainly will. I'll upload some game play footage too when I can.

I've had the same problem. I can't believe how quickly I became
addicted to it and just how quickly time passes when I'm playing. I
even skipped an "Outfit Night" in Planetside in favour of two hours
playing Oblivion.

I've made a conscious decision to not play it for about a week
starting today. So far, so good!

It's an amazing game [Oblivion], I just can't seem to get to grips with the
combat (eveything except really easy stuff beats me - especially if there's
more than one) and the lock picking.

I finally managed to get around to playing this at last.

The first question that came to my mind was "why release this now?"
It's an RPG that is similar to such games as(but greatly inferior to)
Oblivion. It has resource gathering, quests, character development,
multiple choice scenarios and a branching story line.

It's set in a very gritty disease ridden world with a reasonably
interesting Survival/Horror theme. The world seems quite big and you
are apparently free to roam around talking to people and picking up
mini quests along the way.

The graphics are extremely "brown" which gives it a very dated look.
The town that you start off in is made up of identical looking houses
situated in identical looking streets. The quality of design is rather
poor with all the buildings having a very box-like appearance.

My overall impression is that it might be worth a play through if you
like First Person RPG's with some Survival/Horror elements.

I just think that the release period has been very poorly timed given
the pedigree of the games in that genre that are already available.
