Transferred movies are in "encrypted" MPEG-2 format. It's a simple matter to
strip the encryption losslessly for playback with non-Windows software and
other devices (look for tivodecode).
If you have a typical cable service, that is. If yours uses a more advanced
encryption method (unlikely, but possible), I'd guess that the TiVo would not
recode while sending, so you'd get an encrypted MPEG-4 stream in some
container or other (AVI, MP4, etc.). Decrypting that should be just as
straight-forward. |
