About two years ago, two days apart, I got two tickets. One was for not
pulling over to the right-hand lane on the highway for a stopped cruiser.
The guy stopped me and said that he would give me a warning on the speeding
ticket but not the safety issue. I thought-- well, that's good. The ticket
for the safety citation was $300.
Then, returning from a little session in which my under-aged daughter got an
$80 dollar ticket for speeding, I get stopped for going straight in a turn
lane. It was on a newly-opened road, which had been widened. It was
confusing as to what lane went where, as I explained to the officer.
All I got was a $200 ticket. Here in Ohio at least, getting a ticket if
you're under 18 isn't going to cost much. But if you're over 18, be
prepared to pay big.

the more i hear from you guys in oddball states the more i appreciate
massachusetts.
of course the rest of the country thinks we all drive like maniacs and to be
fair, we do.
you really have to b doing 20 mph over the limit on roads like 128 to
attract attention.
but as the police are the fastest drivers out there they have a hard time
noticing.
now and then if the state needs money they get out on the mass pike and set
up radar on it, but that is very rare.
in boston they are fanatic about parking tickets as a way of filling the
coffers. |

Same here but they thought it was a book so they only charged 4% VAT, of
course they added 2,50 Euro for custom cost and 3 for shipping (which i
thought had already paid) and applied a change rate of 1,26 instead of 1,4.
So "only" a 7.4 ? surcharge not considering the 12$ of shipping. Digital
download is badly needed.

You can asses the degree of civilization of a country by looking at
when they decided to chop the king's head off.

I admit to having no clue whatsoever on what they based that 10 Euro
customs charge. S&H + customs essentially means the price of that game
got doubled. Long live digital download

Since Dec. 2008 there is a new EU customs regulation for importing goods
from outside the EU. No customs fee for goods under 150 EURO (only tax).

I will order WWII-SAS after the first reviews in January, maybe there
will be a first patch too.

Please update us when you add digital download. I just bought three
games from Matrix today. I would have bought two from them and SASWW2
if it had been available for DD.

If Belgium is anything like the US, my guess is the officer in question was
short on his monthly quota for citations and was desperate to fill his quota
as most departments hand out sub-standard performance evaluations at the end
of the year if monthly quotas are not met. You are far more likely to get
pulled over for minor violations in the last week of the month than you are
the rest of the time, and warnings are handed out a lot less during that
period as well.
In Oakland our crime rate was so bad, regular patrol officers didn't have
citation quota's as there were usually 30-100 or so calls for service
standing on the logs with no officers available to respond. So we spent most
of our time running from one act of violence to the next with no time to
stop and write tickets.
In fact I once opened my ticket book and found all my citations were moldy
and ruined as the last time I had written a citation it had rained and the
leather ticket book and paper citations musty have gotten wet. It had
probably been several months prior.
The city of Oakland made up for the lack of revenue from this kind of
policing by creating a motor division (motorcycle officers) within the
department. These officers were delegated to just writing citations and
handling traffic collisions for the majority of their work days. Sure they
responded to in progress calls like an armed robbery or shooting, but only
if they were close and no patrol officers could respond right away.
So if you're in a big city, watch out if a motorcycle cop is around, as
these guys are usually tasked to filling citation quotas every day. State
police like the California Highway Patrol are similar in nature to our motor
division guys, they generally have to fill quotas every day as well.
