Ok, in at least two games now, Everquest 2 and in Civ IV, my mouse
pointer flickers badly. There is also a little black square next to
the pointer. It happens in both games. I have the latest Nvidia
drivers. I updated windows through 'Windows Update'. I tried turning
off all background programs. I even tried a different mouse from a
different company with different mouse drivers! No change!
Now I did notice that in EQ2, when I play in the mode that shows the
windows taskbar at the bottom and the windows menu bar at the top, the
pointer does not flicker. But as soon as I hit ALT+ENTER to make the
game completely fullscreen I see the exact same flickering and little
black box I see in Civ IV.
If anyone has any suggestions, I will certainly try them. Thank you! |

I've never seen that problem, but you might try the following; Go into
Display Properties/Settings/Advanced/Troubleshoot, and move the
acceleration slider one notch to the left. That's supposed to disable
Windows' mouse cursor acceleration, so it could possibly have an effect.

Not only did your suggestion fix my mouse flickering, but you probably
managed to speed up the rest of my computer as well. For some reason,
this toggle was set two notches left of Full Acceleration! I have no
idea why. Needless to say, I quickly moved it all the way to the right
to Full Acceleration. No more flickering.
Thank you very much Mr Johnson! |

Probably because you once needed to run some software that had problems
with full acceleration. There are some programs, though I haven't seen
it in a while.
