Post subject: Is Mame networkable?
Archived from groups: alt>games>mame (more info?)

Hi All, and to the folks of the USA, Happy Independance day!!!
I have just finished my very first mame cabinet. It has two player controls.
I am already in the planning stage for my next cabinet. Of course it will
have at least 2 player controls also.
I was wondering, if I connected the two machines via a crossover ethernet
cable, could I play 4 player games using both the cabinets? Example:
Win XP and RJ-45 ethernet connectors on both machines.
4 player game -The Simpsons.
2 arcade cabinets connected by Cat5-E ethernet cross-over cable.
Is it possible for players 1 and 2 to be on first cabinet, and players 3 and
4 to be on other cabinet, while both cabinets display the same picture?
How would one set up mame to do this, if it is possible?
Man it would be cool if this is possible.
Thanks!

(In theory) there exist programs for Windows and Linux (it's already in
the source code for Xmame for Linux, but seems to be broken and you have
to add some stuff to a source file) which allow network play. As one
computer is master (server) you can at least have one client, may be
more.

I forgot the name of the Windows program. I think it was something
starting with "K". Was it "Kailera" or something similar?

Don't forget to hard code link speed and duplex when connectin via crossover
cable. Windows at least doesn't do so good on "Auto"

as far as I know it is not networkable but if you wanted to rub two cabinets
together you could connect the secondary controls by way of molex connectors
to the keyboard encoder on the first unit and have a vga distribution or
video distribution amp to connect the two cabinets video together

Wasn't there an offshoot of MAME that was networkable?
