Post subject: New Mahjong Site...
Archived from groups: rec>games>mahjong (more info?)

After not posting in a while (been crazily busy with a lot of stuff
all those months), and occasionally lurking in this group for that
time...I sort of accidentally bumped into this mahjong site.

Well, technically it is not a new site, since this used to be the
Mahjong Online in Singapore, which moved over to Coolconnect, but now
has its own domain name.

Yes, even the administrator of this site is the same guy from the old
Mahjong Online in Singapore. Even the Mahjong game engine is the old
IMS system from Z.T. Feng.

The site is now at http://www.mahjong.sg

Apparently, I found this on google doing a search on mahjong and 13
individual (one of the few sites which recognize this hand, not the
same as 13 orphans)

Nicholas

The hand is described at http://www.mahjong.sg/node/50

Looks to me as very similar to disconnected (independant) tiles :

I just suppose he means '13 unrelated tiles' (I think this hand is used in
riichi mahjong - you can ask for a re-shuffle if you get them).

Yes, but not often. So rarely it tends to be forgotten by most players.

> you can ask for a re-shuffle if you get them

Actually, if you get '13 unrelated tiles' (shisanmutou) on your first
draw, before anybody makes kan, pon or chi, you win 'mangan' points :
5 yaku, 8000(ko) / 12 000(oya).

With '9 terminals' you can ask for a re-shuffle. Old school players
require not only 9 terminals, 8 of them must be also distinct.

Some Japanese people consider "13 unrelated tiles"
(Shisanbutaa/Shisanbudou) as a "Yakuman" hand as well, 32000 (ko),
48000 (oya).

And I think "9 terminals/Kyuu shuu Kyuu Hai" is really stupid. Because
if you had 8 or 9 distinct terminals, you would be much better off
attempting to achieve "13 Unique Wonders/Kokushimusou" than asking for
a reshuffle.

Maybe they should change the rule to "7 terminals/ Kyuu Shuu Chii Hai
(pronounciation?)", which is 50% of the tiles in your hand (14 tiles).
