I'm considering either purchasing my way into LW or perhaps dropping
my current profs to pick up LW. Please give me
How much gold can one make from leatherworking per week (talking pure
profiteering here)?
How much time are you spending skinning for this profit, if you are
skinning?
Are you selling more leather or mail items?
What items are certain sellers in the AH?
Any other benefits from LW that may not be obvious to non-LW (are the
drums really that great)?
Thanks. |

I understand that you have considered it three times, but I would say
that the only crafting profession that you can make money at is
alchemy. You might be able to make enchanting work, as you can
disenchant your old gear and also dust greens for the constituent
parts, but enchanting is expensive to level. Alchemy practically
levels itself if you are a herbalist, and you can use everything you
make, even if you don't sell it. I have never destroyed a potion, but
I have vendored many crafted items, and I know several enchanters who
have repeatedly enchanted the same bracers or shield over and over
again just for the skillups.
The most obvious moneymaker for alchemists is the exalted Sporeggar
recipe, "Transmute 4g to 25g". Sorry, I mean "Primal Earth to Primal
Water".
If you do go alchemy "For The Wonga", then I recommend specialising in
something other than Transmutation, and then switching your
specialisation to transmute afterwards. The quest to get the other
specialisations is a much cheaper route than acquiring 4 Primal Might.

once you can make Nethercleft and Nethercobra armor kits, you can make a
TON of money.
otherwise, go into Alchemy/Herbs to make money. |

At first that was true, but like most crafting profession, they sell
on my server for roughly same price as mats...

All professions can make a little bit of money if you know what is
going to be in demand.
Tailoring can make money on bags. On my server, the bags sell for
about 2-3g more than the cost of the mats that went into it. I spend
my time making 16-slot bags and selling those. 18 slot bags don't
make the cut though.
The Robes of Arcana, low level green item that tailors can make, from
a pattern that only drops in alliance zones, and has a very low drop
rate there too. If you're lucky enough to have this pattern, these
low level robes sell for about 10g on my server (horde side) since all
warlocks need them if they want their class robe at level 31. These
robes get turned in at the start of a quest chain that awards a nice
blue robe at the end. If you're alliance side you might not have much
demand for this, since the pattern drops in alliance zones its
probably a lot more common for alliance tailors than for horde
tailors.
There are also cloth cooldowns. Many tailors out there in an effort
to get specialized cloth faster will pay for the cooldowns, and they
usually provide the mats for it. Also, since your specialty produces
2 cloth for the cost of 1 set of mats, you can easily buy the mats and
make a profit off the 2 cloth you produce. In fact I find it a waste
of time to grind/buy the mats to make spellcloth or primal mooncloth
when I can make 2 shadowcloth for half the price, then either sell the
shadowcloth and use the money to buy the other cloth, or trade it
directly. |

All very good points. I haven't played a tailor, but I should have
thought of these.
