I thought maybe we could share on who is using what LD Player for the
Holiday's as most collect dust until the Fall and Winter Seasons and
Family gets together more often for Movies.

I took out my LD-S1 for our main viewing room for the Holiday's, even
though its a single sided player it brings out the movies this Season.

We watched the 50th anniversary release of "Miracle on 34th Street" on
our Mitsubishi M-V7057 feeding a Sharp XR-10X DLP projector shining
onto a 100-inch 4:3 screen.

Merry Christmas to all.

I'm rewatching the Japanese anime Akira after 15 years. I've sold off much
of may anime collection on LD because I have zone free DVD play on both my
table-top DVD player and PC. However, my original Japanese Akira and
Gatchaman - Second Season are discs I'll have my entire life.

My player: Mint condition Pioneer LD-V8000 with CU-V103 RCU. Less than 9,000
hours of spin on the motor! Wink~

Best Regards,
Bill "The Colonel" N.

Spun up the RANMA 1/2 Christmas episode on my CLD-D704 earlier today.

It's funny, in a way -- with so much anime in my collection, I hardly
need a double-side player. A double-sided disc on which one programme
actually spans both sides is the exception, & most of the time when
I'm watching something, I wind up hitting "SIDE A" rather than "PLAY".

I most often use my trusty CLD-501.

Not the fanciest player, but so far, very reliable.

Hi everyone,
New to group. Happy to be here. LD user since 1991, but never found my
way to the internet LD community till recently. Anyway, my Christmas
film on LD this year was It's a Wonderful Life 50th Anniversary SE
(1996) on my Pioneer CLD-D701.

When I crack it out, it's an old Sony MDP-750. Definitely needs and
adjustment.

Welcome!

I have my "holiday pile" of LDs stacked up next to my CLD 501.

The Stand (IMHO this is one of the best movies of all time)
The Langoliers
Life Stinks (Mel Brooks)
Doctor Zhivago
Room Service (Marx Bros.)
Popcorn
Ten Commandments

and I'll probably pick some from my favorite category: "cheesy 50's n 60's sci-fi" too.

Happy Holidays!!!

For what it is worth: my CLD-98 (champagne Elite CLD-97) had the honour of
playing Apollo 13 DTS and Criterion Blade Runner CAV.

Welcome! I've decided to alternate my favorite Hollywood classics. So
this year it was "Miracle on 34th Street" as mentioned earlier, and
next year will spin "It's a Wonderful Life." Great old flicks, and
Academy ratio classics hold up better than anything on laserdisc.

Still have my LD-V6200a (and finally found a remote to run it), but
may be looking for another machine at some point. A friend was also
looking for LD players on eBay, and said he'd been sold a few broken
ones, so does anyone know of a good source for working players for
sale?

Drop a note to kevin AT laserdiscvault.com

I'm not sure right off whats in stock, but I know he has a few good Pioneer Elite players in stock and he'll guarantee you
don't get a lemon. (read his feedback on laserdiscvault.com)

I've also got a McIntosh MLD-7020 LD player here but it hasn't been serviced yet (not sure when I'll get to that). If you
want to handle having it serviced, I'll let it go pretty cheap and throw in a AC-3 decoder as well. Cosmetically it's almost
mint with perfect glass. Write me at webmaster AT laserdiscvault.com if you want more info on the Mac or ask Kevin about
ready-to-ship players.

Thanks for the welcomes! I am a revived laserdisc user, in a way. I
bought my first player (CLD-990) in 1991 and my collection grew
painfully slowly through the '90s. I have never stopped playing my
LDs, but cleaned out my collection over a year ago, selling off the
ones I no longer wanted and had bought on DVD in the meantime.

Since paring down my collection, I discovered that LDs are now finally
in my price range, and can be had much more cheaply than their DVD
versions used. So, I'm back and my LD collection is now three times
the size it ever was. I love the cover art, and don't mind the poorer
picture quality in comparison to newer tech, as long the film
interests me. I never got much into buying videocassettes, so for me
it's either LD, HD DVD (yes, I was there for that one because of Star
Trek), and BD.

Only a week ago, I finally picked up the Star Wars Definitve
Colleciton box set from a thrift store. What a find! I think the
original, unaltered SW is going into the player tonight!

BTW, can anyone help me locate an online laserdisc-specific forum
whose address I have misplaced? I don't think it was that old, and was
owned by a laserdisc enthusiast from the UK. Anyone else a member?
Could you provide the link? Thanks.
