Most of the garages with the double-wide doors will open up when you pull up
to them. Obviously you can drive in, and on some, the view will change to a
different "camera" when your car is in. Very much like SA.
I only opened maybe 10 last night, but didn't find any cars in them. So,
what's the purpose of them ? Dropped features or missions ? Or something
else that didn't get finished ? Portals to another dimension ?
I'm still having fun dickering with the swingset, but maybe i'll take a
break from that and see what fun i can have with a garage. |

That's interesting. That would be a nice touch in the DLC, the ability
to buy houses and use garages. Not going to happen though so yeah,
sounds like more design over use. Like cars standing round with their
front and back open but you can't actually open them personally.

We all know that R* experiments with content on the GTA engine during
development , especially since they left some unused content on SA that got
the pot boiling. Unfinished business, or just garages, who knows. I'm not
gonna think too deep on that. Like you said, i doubt any content will come
down the pipe for it.
Having said that, i'll be trying a few experiments on them tonight. I've
been juggling furniture while tearing up the carpet, padding, and tack strip
in my living room and den this week after work. So i haven't had much beer
and GTA time. But it's Friday night, time to stop working. Soon...
BTW, finally checked out your link Paul. Very nice pics. |

We were discussing this the other day. One of the swing sets reacts
very strangely to impact, basically knocks your vehicle to hell and
back...
this is Odd Bob's posting
--------------
http://img55.imageshack.us/img55/4503/car1mapoq2.jpg
(Let me know if the URL works. It's a block away from the first armor
pickup I found.)
When you find it, put the back bumper of your vehicle against the
center post of the swing. You may
have to bump it a few times to piss it off before it'll do anything.
Once it starts moving and kicking up
debris, it's ready to go. The swing on the north side (on the right
if you're facing west) is less likely to
send you into the nearby apartment building, though it's unpredictable
and hard to control regardless.
If you can avoid hitting the apartment building you could fly as far
as the park or even farther.
In single player you have to back your car into it or Niko will get
thrown through the windshield almost
every time, which can be entertaining though not necessarily what you
want to happen. More than
once Niko wound up in the ocean six blocks away, but usually he just
went splat against some nearby
building. In multi you apparently can't be thrown from your car so
you can go nose-in if you want.
If you play with this long enough you'll get the "Rolled Over"
achievement. I did this with an ice
cream van, and it came as a complete surprise.
If you park a car inside the swing (between the posts) it might get
kicked a few feet but it might also
get bashed and twisted into shapes you wouldn't think possible in a
videogame. One car I messed
with was so badly beaten up its wheels couldn't turn anymore because
the fenders were pressing
against them. Another car I used came out looking like a banana!
Finally, watch out for the peds. They get angry when you drive up
into the playground and might pull
you out of the car. Keep your trusty bat handy and hope the cops
don't catch you giving them a
beatdown.
Anyway, that's pretty much all I know of the Swingset of Doom (also
known as the Car Cannon.) Have
fun!

There's also another swingset not too far away from there, and there is a
normal (no awesomely dangerous poltergeist making it do the launchy on
unsuspecting passersby) swingset right next to it. I think it's slightly
to the north, but I could be mistaken. |

I'm still not sure I am doing it right anyway. my car tends to get
tipped on its side and it just sits there for a few seconds before
suddenly getting launched... still funny but I thought I was supposed
to kind of nudge the uprights and get blasted.

If my instructions were unclear, I apologize. Try doing a Youtube search
on "car cannon." That's where I learned how to use it.

My old Pentax K1000 went with me whenever i was hiking, camping, etc..
Finally the viewfinder mirror shattered when i took a pic back in the late
90's. I finally retired it a year or so later for a digital.
I lost some of my love for picture taking after that. Probably due to the
point and click nature of digitals. Finding the beautiful shot wasn't that
hard, capturing it was. |

My strangest encounters are as follows:
Several weeks ago, when I first learned of it, I had a car that was
pretty beat up from having just been launched. I launched it again and
it landed on a nearby step, somehow repairing itself in the process of
landing. I heard a weird noise as this happened - note, I did not use
any cheats (I haven't used any cheats yet, as I am still stuck on the
last mission). I don't even think Niko was healed, just the car.
Yesterday, I was thinking of trying to locate the other pair of
swingsets (until laziness got the better of me). I just went ahead and
drove into the main one, and was injured a bit. Tried it again and
suffered fatal injuries. I jacked a car and drove back, and drove into
the middle pole as always - and poof! the swingset just vanished. I had
to leave the area and come back to get it to reappear.
Another fun way to abuse poor Niko is to have him crouch directly
beneath the broken swing. |

:O) There appears to be two swingsets on the tower block nearby, I
found it last night and got launched in the same way and everything.
these ones are in a different location, and are standing in a kind of
L formation, so maybe they could make for more interesting launches
but there is one of the huge legs from the overhead railway right next
to them.

I sympathize as I started doing it with digital, couldn't ever afford
to do it earlier. I went for it in a big way, using it to get out of
the house and wander here and there, but I have suffered from OCD and
depression for some time and it became more and more difficult to
force myself outside until it got to the point where I can hardly get
myself to pick up a camera. It was great while it lasted though and
maybe some day I might start again.
