The Quiz Quilt title clues have been very hit or miss. Some have been
too cryptic (Devilish Domitian Designation = DCLXVI) and others too easy
(Gridiron Gathering = HUDDLE). It's tough to find the Goldilocks "just
right" level, but I'm happy to report that every quilt clue has been
solved by at least one of you since QQ 24, when only four people even
attempted the puzzle.
[The following web page may not have many hits, but you shouldn't
miss it if you're new here: http://triviawhys.com/QuizQuiltRules.html]

STRIKE.
Robert Jen:
> Who was the first known European to sail to the southern tip of
> Africa, in 1488?
Huh. I though that was Vasco DA GAMA, but it has to be one word,
and there's no S or E there either. I guess Da Gama was the first
to turn north up the other side and get somewhere interesting.
> What former NBA player is known as the Glove?
Yawn.
> What author observed, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is

Sir Arthur C. CLARKE. 4th letter down or backward diagonal.
> Which Middle Eastern country's capital is Damascus?
SYRIA. 4th letter down.
> What character did singer Rick Springfield play on "General Hospital"
> from 1981 to 1983 and 2007 to 2008?
I don't know. How about JACK?
> What gland's functions include the storage of vitamins, the cleansing
> of blood, and the deactivation of hormones?
Must be the LIVER, although I didn't think it was considered a gland.
Well, I can't think of any explorers with 4th letter S before Hudson.
No place names around southern Africa that fit that pattern and might
have been named after them, either. I'll just try DIAS. And SMITH
for the athlete.

I'm getting nowhere with this week's Quiz Quilt, but since scores are
totaled on a 10-week basis, I guess it's worth entering if I can get
even one point.

CLARKE, Arthur C.

SYRIA
No attempt at the quilt this week.

Exactly. He went all the way to India, while the answer was trying to
get there, but his crew had had enough and wouldn't let him!

Correct (I'm not sure why I didn't just say "organ", but it seems to
qualify as a gland).

organ)
