Archived from groups: alt>games>half-life (more info?)

So, I have now completed Half life, HL2, HL2 Episode1, and HL2 Episode2; the
last three in the last 2 months, for the first time. Wow! To have waited
this long to complete them may seem strange and somewhat odd, but it really
added a dimension on continuance that others may have not gained. There were
many spectacular areas in this PC game that I will remember and have screen
shots of. Inside the Combine, traveling in the "pod" or whatever it was,
moving about and seeing the artistic ability of the producers was very nice.
The ending of HL2 Episode2 with the Striders was also demanding and showed
the detail that was involved with this game. It was a slight shocker to also
see what happened at the very end. Which I will not mention. Dog does help
though.

With my newest computer, with some much needed hardware upgrades, I was able
to play these games at high settings and realize all of the special effects
and appreciate them for what they are worth. When we bought our very
"first" computer, we immediately went to the store and asked the clerk,
"What would be a good game to get with our new computer?" The answer was
"Half-life, without a doubt!" I must say it has been a somewhat long but
enjoyable journey with Alyx and her friends. It would seem Half Life2
Episode3 is going to be somewhere around 2010 before it makes its debut. I
can wait that long to see how it is wrapped up and I will continue to frag
in TFC, TF2, DOD, DOD Source, and some CS.(Which really is not my favorite)
Fortress Forvever is also a kick sometimes as well. Starting on Lost Coast
ASAP will be the last of this game untill HL2 Episode3.

Finally, a great game with intellectual thought in it, that has a story line
to feed the mind of imagination.

Thanks Valve.

As I've mentioned before a good game is sometimes like a great movie
in the sense of it having great gaming/movie moments and Half-life and
Half-life 2 although since the advent of episodic that seems to be
increasingly rare.

The section you referred to I didn't enjoy. If, placed next to say,
the boat section in HL2 it all seems a little weak.

Yes, to date I've not had the opportunity to play the HL's on a high-
end machine but with the advent of games like Crysis that all seems a
little pointless anyway. Besides, I've always considered the HL games
to be more about story and good game design than graphics to be fair

They might be building a new engine to work with. Even now the source
engine is looking a little old. Or is that just me?

I've enjoyed them but since HL2 the game series has tailed off a
little for me. I've still an awful lot of faith in Valve and am very
keen to see their other projects.

Roll on Portal 2!
