Post subject: Girly Adventures needed
Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>games>adventure (more info?)

I need some Girly advice about Adventure (and other types of) games.

I know that I'm being a sexists pig and that women like as many different
varieties of games as men do, but I need some more games for my girlfriend
and maybe someone here (male or female) has a similar taste and can
recommend something.

I have been playing Computer Games since before 1980, and she has been
playing them for a couple of years. It's difficult for me to guage the level
of difficulty she can cope with.

My girlfriend has played (and loved):

Spider Solitaire - Not one of my favourites, I prefer 'Seahaven Towers' and
'Freecell'.

Pandora's Box (www.microsoft.com/games/pandorasbox/) and its sequel - A
wonderful (difficult to get hold of) 3D jigsaw puzzle game.

'Hunstville' (and the sequel 'Prime Suspects') from www.bigfishgames.com -
She replays these occasionally. They are like a very hard Where's
Wally/Waldo with a bit of a jigsaw thrown in.

'Rect' - A superb free game from
www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/puzzles/. Like Sudoku but 100 times
better (IMHO).

And some adventures (which I, and UHS, helped with):

'Return to Mysterious Island' (www.mysteriousislandgame.com) - A Myst-alike
that has no other characters (except Monkeys). It does have a fantastic
Inventory-combining system where several objects can be linked together to
create complex items and then unlinked so that the constituent parts can be
reused in other combinations. Has that ever been done before?

The CSI series (http://csi.ubisoft.co.uk/). Lots of murder-scene-analysis
and suspect interrogation.

'Still Life' (www.dreamcatcherinteractive.com/tac/still_life/) - A whodunit
where you play as yourself and your dead dad (as I recall) working on the
same case years apart.

'And Then There Were None' (www.agathachristiegame.com) - Another 'The
Adventure Company' published game, this time based on an Agatha Christie
novel.

So what can we deduce from this Messieur Poirot?

She prefers real life graphics to cartoons?

She likes puzzles rather than verbose character interaction?

But prefers *combining* puzzles to mathematical/logical ones.

She doesn't care for FPSs?

The problem is that I have hundreds of games to play and replay, but she has
a very limited interest.

So if anyone recognizes (and likes) some of the games above - I'd be
grateful if they could point me towards something similar.

BTW, I haven't started her on the great Girly-adventures yet, 'The Longest
Journey' and 'Syberia'. I think she would like the style but the puzzles are
way too hard (not to mention that she doesn't like the endless chatting).
But I'm sure we will get around to it.

BTW2, I don't want any mention of 'GK2 - The Beast Within' - Once she's seen
the guys in that, she wont stay with me for long.

All the Nancy Drew games are excellent, except for maybe the first which I
didn't really enjoy.

If she likes CSI, she will like the Law and Order series.

Also should probably include the Cameron Files 1 and 2.

She would probably also like The Silver Earring, a Sherlock Holmes game in
the same sort of style as And Then There Were None.

Gabe's a babe. What can you do? No reason to miss out! GK3 as well.

Syberia would still be a good choice -- it's puzzles were easier compared
to many adventure games. Also, try the Nancy Drew games; they are fun for
any age (I like them), and the puzzle difficulty can be reduced.

You may be out of luck here -- she may just not like anything in the entire
genre.

I don't think he has any. At least on his website he used to have or I
think I looked one time in www.imdb.com and no marriage is mentioned and
he is getting older by now. He better hurry up if he wants to get
married and have kids, or maybe he has an "alternate" lifestyle.

Haha, I knew that would bring you out! - Its me who is Mrs. Von G. or I
wouldn't mind if I was Mrs. Gabriel Knight - Mrs. Dean Erickson. Or we
can swap. BTW Barbara, on a more serious note, did you finish Myst 4? I
went back to it, but its not as good as Myst 3 and I got bored, then I
went on to Keepsake which was much more interesting, but I've finished
it now and was replaying American McGee's Alice but finished it too, so
waiting for some new games to come out soon. I played the demo of BS4
and it could be promising.

That game has been talked about forever. Will it ever be finished? I
would love to see a sequel to 11th Hour. 7th Guest was the pioneer of
its day in the way of graphics and innovation. I remember when it first
came out, everybody in the office where I worked talked about getting
it, including me. I've never heard any other computer game since which
caused that much attention.

I don't think so. Maybe you are thinking of "The Collector," which was
cancelled. "The 13th Doll" is a fan made game.

Hasn't the 13th Doll game also been in the workd for a long time. I
guess the Collector never got off the ground.
Too bad, it might have been interesting.

I don't really know for sure. I think The Collector came first. I heard
about it years before I heard about the 13th Doll.

Yeah. It had a really cool promo trailer. But they never got funding to
make the game. Too bad.
