I need some Girly advice about Adventure (and other types of) games.
I know that I'm being a sexists pig and that women like as many different
varieties of games as men do, but I need some more games for my girlfriend
and maybe someone here (male or female) has a similar taste and can
recommend something.
I have been playing Computer Games since before 1980, and she has been
playing them for a couple of years. It's difficult for me to guage the level
of difficulty she can cope with.
My girlfriend has played (and loved):
Spider Solitaire - Not one of my favourites, I prefer 'Seahaven Towers' and
'Freecell'.
Pandora's Box (www.microsoft.com/games/pandorasbox/) and its sequel - A
wonderful (difficult to get hold of) 3D jigsaw puzzle game.
'Hunstville' (and the sequel 'Prime Suspects') from
www.bigfishgames.com -
She replays these occasionally. They are like a very hard Where's
Wally/Waldo with a bit of a jigsaw thrown in.
'Rect' - A superb free game from
www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/puzzles/. Like Sudoku but 100 times
better (IMHO).
And some adventures (which I, and UHS, helped with):
'Return to Mysterious Island' (www.mysteriousislandgame.com) - A Myst-alike
that has no other characters (except Monkeys). It does have a fantastic
Inventory-combining system where several objects can be linked together to
create complex items and then unlinked so that the constituent parts can be
reused in other combinations. Has that ever been done before?
The CSI series (http://csi.ubisoft.co.uk/). Lots of murder-scene-analysis
and suspect interrogation.
'Still Life' (www.dreamcatcherinteractive.com/tac/still_life/) - A whodunit
where you play as yourself and your dead dad (as I recall) working on the
same case years apart.
'And Then There Were None' (www.agathachristiegame.com) - Another 'The
Adventure Company' published game, this time based on an Agatha Christie
novel.
So what can we deduce from this Messieur Poirot?
She prefers real life graphics to cartoons?
She likes puzzles rather than verbose character interaction?
But prefers *combining* puzzles to mathematical/logical ones.
She doesn't care for FPSs?
The problem is that I have hundreds of games to play and replay, but she has
a very limited interest.
So if anyone recognizes (and likes) some of the games above - I'd be
grateful if they could point me towards something similar.
BTW, I haven't started her on the great Girly-adventures yet, 'The Longest
Journey' and 'Syberia'. I think she would like the style but the puzzles are
way too hard (not to mention that she doesn't like the endless chatting).
But I'm sure we will get around to it.
BTW2, I don't want any mention of 'GK2 - The Beast Within' - Once she's seen
the guys in that, she wont stay with me for long.
