GalCiv II: Those that've played Beta - So there are 3 weapon type, and 3 armour types. I think offensive types were Beam, Missile, and Mass, with Shields, Point Def, and Armour being the defense types. This sounds cool, but what if you're at war with two..

galciv - is there a newsgroup for galciv?

Is anyone still playing Galciv? - I'm looking for an active forum but all I have found are dead ones.

If I like Civ 1-3, will I like GalCiv 2? - I've been hooked on Civ ever since a friend me to Civ 1 on his Mac. I've never been very good at it -- always lose at 2 levels above min -- but enjoy it at the low levels anyway. I've played Civ 1-3, but haven't tried 4 yet. If I like Civ,..

Has anybody here actually gotten and played the last offering
in the Galciv series? I've made it as far as Dark Avatar, and I
am still playing and enjoying that, but I haven't shelled out
for the newest expansion mod.

Any experiences? In particular I'd like to know what truly
earthshattering novelties and improvements are contained
therein. If any. Frankly, I am a bit sick of buying the 'latest
and greatest' installment of a game only to find out it's
barely more'n a patch with a new skin and one or two bon-bons.

B.t.w. I am kind of glad I didn't top up my Totalgaming.Net
creds for this --- for some mysterious reason Stardock have not
enabled buying this game for 'tokens'. I just bet a few people
went 'doh'(or worse) at that. I would've.

One thing I do know is that I've yet be able to complete a
game without it crashing, after several hours play it
consumes huge amounts of memory. As a result I've gone back
to play regular CivII for now.

On the plus site it does have a lot of nice little features
that make the game a little easier to play and looks a lot
better.

I like the way the AI will automatically improve ships for
you creating a v2, v3 etc. What I don't like is that it
seems to continue doing this even after you've told it that
a particular ship design is now obsolete.
