I don't really care how many 'diss' it, GTAIV is still a great,
atmospheric game.
Tried to play "GRID" tonight but it didn't hold me as much as GTAIV has.
Off to play, again, on the swingset...

I don't think IV is bad, it's just that SA was better. |

oh yeah, Simon, it is still cool, we have just been spoiled by SA, so
we were expecting more game play.

:O) 'bitter'? It is certainly the best for everything except main
storyline and sidelines. Even though I don't like Niko at least he can

That's what I thought after I started playing GTA:IV too. Being an avid
GTA:SA player, it totally ruined the fun in the beginning.
BUT.. after a while, it stuck to me. Now, I consider it to be *much*
better than the driving physics from previous GTA installments. Why? For
example, do a race against your opponents. In GTA:SA, all the other race
drivers were near-perfect drivers, and their cars would do impossible
things. The only way to win was to make 0 mistakes and hope for one of
the other drivers to crash while they were in your view.
In GTA:IV however, the other drivers make a lot of mistakes (a few too
many perhaps), because that's what you get when you drive your car hard
through residential areas. Of course, you yourself will face exactly the
same problems as they do. This means, that if you're a skilled driver,
it's a fair race, and you don't lose the race because of 1 unlucky spin.
I like this a lot better, as your chance to win relies less on
random chance, and more on skill.
> > Yeah, they've completely sucked out all the fun from bikes in this game.

That, I must agree with. Bikes were my vehicle of choice in VC and SA,
as you could manouvre them through traffic in residential areas even
when it was busy. No such thing in :IV though, as the bloody things are
impossible to handle at a decent speed.

I've never been a sucker for the need to be as realistic as possible. In
this case, if the driving sucks so bad because of realism, they've gone
one step too far. Fun must exceed realism in the long rung, which is not
the case with these hellish vehicles.
Ooh.. did anyone notice that the vehicle spawning is almost exactly as
horrible as it was in all previous 3D GTA's? Often when you need a
vehicle, there are almost none around! But when you quickly look behind
you and back to the front again, 3 cars just pass you on the other lane
you're not standing on, just too late for you to grab! It drives me
insane at times! Sure, sometimes you can run after them and hope they
get a red light and stop. And you can call Roman to get a cab out for
you. But it still drives me crazy at times.

Boats. they drive me nuts. when you're swimming to ditch the cops or
something boats always come right up to you, but rarely close enough
to grab and worse still they always stop until you start swimming
towards them

Not my experience in SA at all. In most races you have a speed
advantage, so you can usually pass the others fairly quickly and build
a lead. Then you can ease off and make sure you stay on the road. The
computer controlled cars do make mistakes, especially in races with
hairpin turns. They screw up jumps too.
I've only raced one race in GTA4. Easy on win on first try, not much
challenge there. Now granted, that Comet you drive in that race
handles pretty well. I guess it's not so much about how the sport cars
handle, it's just that the ordinary cars should handle better.

Yeah.

Yes, annoying. It's even more annoying when that one guy's missions
start at the docks where no taxis spawn, so first you have to drive
out of there and then you can get a cab. Driving all the way to a
mission after you've failed it a few times isn't much fun. If only
they had kept "trip skip" from SA. |

Can't you even get a cab there by calling Roman? I do recall being
annoyed at the docks mission site, but usually when I fail a mission I
reload my game instead of using the built-in restart function. With cabs
available, going to a mission's starting point is not that much bother.
That's another thing actually.. in Saints Row, if you fail a mission,
your state is restored to *exactly* how it was before you started the
mission. In IV, you will have lost all armor you had (if you lost it
while attempting the mission), same goes for your weapons. Rather
irritating and therefore quite useless. They could have bothered to
restore that. It's less realistic perhaps, but receiving a text message to
replay a mission after you died does not exactly win an award for
realism either.
