"Okay... every, and I mean *EVERY* GTA game since III has expanded on the
previous version."
Technically you would be wrong Buckaroo since you aren't taking in account
for GTA, GTA2, and the London thing (all which were released the the
original Playstation, if not the PS2).
GTA2 was an improvement over the original, just like any sequel should. Plus
the London thing, call it add-on or stand alone. That was the end of that
era.
The next era was a relationship with the PS2. GTA3 was phenomenal and
cracked open a new genre at the time, but looking back, was quite simplistic
with a fun storyline. The ambulance mission was pure hell. Vice City
expanded that with real music, a cool theme, more stuff to do, and real
actors. SA took an even bigger leap with a massive playfield, even more
actors and more music. Plus the shitload of other cool things they were able
to stuff into a long used game engine. That was the end of that era.
Now along comes the next era of GTA. We're starting over again. I think R*
set out what they wanted to do with Liberty City. Amazing detail and
atmosphere of a city, great physics engine, and good storyline. Wasn't that
the basics behind #3 ? An interactive city with a story to show it off with
? Use your imagination again.
And with the delay in DLC, i wonder if R* is going to address some of the
users wish lists along with whatever "episodic" content they had planned. If
all you wanted was a jetpack, by all means buy the PC version. I'm sure
we'll see plenty of user mods this winter. |

Actually, GTAIII used real actors for the voiceovers. Joe Pantoliano,
Michael Madsen, Frank Vincent, Michael Rapaport, Robert Loggia and Kyle
Maclachlan all lend their voices.
VC did have "bigger" stars, but I can't think of anyone better suited
to Salvatore Leone than Frank Vincent (Harvey Keitel? Robert De Niro?).
Cheers,
Rob

Granted, everything you said was true, because I neglected to explain that I
considered GTA to be actually *born* with GTAIII

Now okay, all the fanboys are saying that "it's the city" this time. Now
let's
stack up what one can do with IV vs SA. Here's my problems I'm so drunk
right now that I can't probably do the difference justice. I just remember
hearing something about Niko being able to pick up some garbage or empty can
off the street? Is that right? No proficiency with weapons, no proficiency
swimming.. and I could go on and on with vehicles and weapons, but we both
know.
Okay, no rampages, or businesses, or real estates... But WOW... the city
I'm
having hot coffee with Algonquin right now!
No driving schools, boat schools, or Gang territories... but I hear you can
bail from
your helicopter and hope to hit the statue of liberty city..

Oh, of that I have no doubt. It's just not what the fans wanted.

Well, if you compare IV vs III, and disregard VC & SA, then you're goddamned
right!

I wanted this game to wow me like the last game did.... just like every GTA
they've ever released. Every iteration was better than the last until IV |

Harvey Keitel would be great as a GTA voiceover, probably better than Bobby
D.
You got me on a technicality. I suppose i should have done my homework since
it's been 8 years. |

there's no need for a number because the game is programmed so that
there is always a cab close by. If you dont see a cab run no more than
half a block and there will be one.
BTW - the only big drawback to gta4 is that you cannot stand on a
vehicle or train while its moving. |

I believe Saint's Row 2 is going to feature vehicle surfing, among other things.
Actually, the trailer makes it sound like it'll be at least as much fun as GTA4. But then it would. I'll be
waiting on the reviews...

According to GameFAQs it will be released on the PC, PS3, and 360 on
October 14th. Alas, my money's going to Fallout 3 two weeks later so I'll
be waiting for SR2 a while, anyway...
