Talking single player only, i'm leaning towards no, it isn't more fun.
The physics in GTA4 are superb, no complaints there. The visuals are
awesome, no complaints there either. Liberty City is a sight to behold. But
outside of the missions, i'm already getting bored with what few activities
are offered. You can only go bowling so many times, or jump out of a
helicopter and bounce off buildings (ok, that's still fun;) ).
Dates (unless you go to the comedy club or cabaret) have little to offer.
Driver her there, drive her home. No cutscenes. The Liberty City internet
was fun to poke through initially, but where's the beef after that ?
I miss schools and races for every type of vehicle. This city just begs for
bicycles. But alas, none are offered. Even the tedious ambulance and
firetruck missions are missed. Can't buy properties or collect $$ from
businesses. Money is useless after 20K. Seems strange that Niko only cares
about one thing in the missions. Money. Yet he can't spend it on anything
substantial in his world.
I played SA from the day it was released for PC, until the week GTA4 was
unleashed. Other than Papyrus' Nascar Racing 2003, SA is the only other
title that actively resides on my hard drive. It's just that good, and looks
good in 1280x1024. I think Rockstar porked themselves when made SA. They
really pushed the sandbox platform to a standard that even they may not
equal.
You could compare GTA4 with GTA3 i suppose, as they are both the first
release on a new platform. Seems like both offer about the same content too.
And in that regard, i'll probably wind up only playing GTA4 as much as i did
GTA3. I've slowed down completing missions simply to prolong my 1'st play
through.
That's enough to start with. |

I like GTA4 a lot more than SA. I feel that in SA they focused too much on
making the map as big as possible, four times the size of Vice City but
all they seemed to have done was just spaced everything out. Then they
made tedious missions that involved driving over miles of countryside
taking about 10 minutes just to pick someone up. |

I've been playing 99% multiplayer, 1% actual game for GTA4. I've played GTA:MP and MTA for
SA, both fan-made multipalyer mods. They are HORRIBLE. Rockstar got it right with the
multiplayer modes in GTA4. I'm still on "bull in a china shop".
Sadly, I am really missing out on what made SA so much fun: the side missions. Side
missions were a fun break from sometimes frustrating storyline missions & gave the game so
much more depth. Yes, there is the sometimes "too large of a map" syndrome SA has, but I
am having a hard time finding fun things to do in GTA4's Liberty City.
While the graphics are a magnitude better in GTA4, I am finding the content to exploit
this new world a bit lacking. It looks like there was a major shift in game design in GTA4
compared to 3-SA. Exploring the new LC in GTA4 just seems to be finding more and more
trash. Yeah,I can climb up a billboard or crane, but there is honestly nothing there.
There's no little mini "mechanisms" like the basketball court in SA, for example.
Oh well. |

I can't play SA since i started GTA 4. SA look too fake, especially the
way cars move (they can take a turn at full speed, and on highway cars
as all the same speed, even sports cars and olds cars).
I'd like especially when i take a cab, and look at the landcape (the
first FPS-like moment in the game).
The only thing i don't like is that on double-lane roads, cars choose
random lane, instead on stay on the right lane like you must do in real
life. |

Well, I've only been playing for a few hours... I'd have to say that IV is
more impressive than SA, but SA- *at this point* has been more fun.

Wow, I feel bad for you- you're missing out on quite an experience... but I
kind of understand, once you've played a next gen system, it's hard to step
back. |

I don't brag about them at all, but when done well, achievements are
fun to get, often an interesting challenge you would never do
otherwise. In years to come, you can look back at your gamer card and
be reminded of some great gaming moments.

oh yeah, I didn't really mean i go round bragging about them... I
don't have enough anyway to brag about
My favourite gamer points were the 'crowd pleaser' ones in lego
starwars complete. It is for killing jarjar binks so many times :O))

Xbox live arcade for the XBLA and the points are the ones you buy and
use to purchase in game content or even games such as Doom. We bought
frogger this way and a few other games, Brain Challenge was one. I
have also bought extra cars for some of the driving games and the
points will be used to buy the extra content which arrives for GTA IV
later this year.

Thanks for the info, but the little I know of online play is people quitting
on you if you're winning (yahoo dominos) and people quitting when you're on
a quest (Champions of Norrath). I have to say that so far I don't like
online play.... What's to keep a person from being a dick? |

Not much on the xbox, I'm afraid. Apparently you can put a bad mark on
people but I just cut them off. I think you can put a 'friends only'
contact thing on the 360, but I haven't tried it. Some of the abuse
from young americans has been awful and I stopped using the headset
during gaming as it was a waste of time trying to talk to them. There
are some good points which may not be the same on the ps3, such as
being able to purchase things or swap things between players in
certain games. In Forza2 you can both auction your cars and buy other
people's using in game currency and you can even give a vehicle to
someone as long as they're in your friends list and have some sort of
live account.
The XBLA games do not have to be played online, or my wife wouldn't
play them, they are just designed so they can be played online too.
