Post subject: GTA4 NOCD? Archived from groups: alt>games>grand-theft-auto (more info?)
I'd love to be able to play GTA4 without the CD. Am I totally out of
luck? I have a legit copy, registered with Rockstar and Microsoft, I
just don't want to have to carry the disc with me when I travel.

I remember readig about this issue in Xbox mag. The game disc must be
used in the game system so that you can't go and copy it to use on other
systems. It's Microsoft's way of keeping piracy down. I'd personally
do the same thing if I worked very hard to create games myself. You may
be able to read about this at www.xboxmagazine.com. Hope this breif
answer sheds light on your question.

I understand about the problem, but that doesn't help me when I've
left the CD at home this morning and I'm away all week with no GTA.

Are you actually playing on a laptop then? Must be fairly beefy?
Anyways, I got a no-DVD when I got the game from somewhere and it
seems to work. It's probably the one from gamecopyworld.com.

Yay got it to work! The gamecopyworld one didn't work but I found one
linked on GTAForums.com that did, third time lucky. So keep trying
different copies of LaunchGTAIV until you find one that works.
