Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>games>rpg (more info?)

So I reach the point where I'm suppose to get Lee and Gorn to
combine their forces to defeat the evil Demon and Thorus.

Lee has walked off the map and is unreachable. Only way
to get to him is to activate Test Mode in the g3.ini file. Then
I can goto Lee. I have to do this 3 times before he will go to
Gotha to join Gorn.

So I go to Gotha to meet Lee and escort him to Gorn. No
Lee, but there are a couple of Paladins standing in the field,
so I figure he's stuck somewhere. Again, I goto Lee. I land
in the middle of a totally white page with a vague horizon.
As I head towards that horizon, I realize I'm approaching
the 2 Paladins. As I approach them, the game seems to
reload some stuff, and sure enough it spawns Lee beside
the 2 Paladins. So, on we go. I escort the 3 of them to
Gorn. When I get to Gorn, the game spawns the rest of
the Paladins ... maybe 10 more. Fine.

I do the next quest for Gorn, to go and get Milten and Osch.
I bring them back to Gorn, and we follow Milten to attack
Thorus and the Summoner Mage. Milten is running a marathon
and totally outruns all the Paladins and Lee and Gorn. He
and I get to the cave to attack a bunch of Orcs and also
a bunch of flame throwing Shamans. Not a chance in China.
I restart this save, and this time I wait for the Paladins to
keep up. I know where Milten is going, so I let him go.

When all the Paladins get to the cave, Milten starts the
big fight, and the Orcs are distracted by the Paladins
.... sort of. Actually the Paladins are hitting each other
and so they are fighting each other and the Orcs. I use
my bow to attract the Shamans, and when they come
down to fire-ball the Paladins, I sneak up from behind
them, and it is bad news for the Shamans. Then I finish
off the Orcs. Finally the Paladins quite fighting each
other and leave.

Another dozen or so stupid quests, and I'm invited to
become the King of Myrtana, Rhobar the 3rd, but Milten
is missing. I goto Milten and find him stuck between
2 trees. I push him out and start the last conversation
of the game. He replies, but continues walking towards
Vengard, and soon I can't hear his voice. I'm frozen in
place while he talks and talks and talks. I miss all of
that. When he is done, I run to catch him, and he is
ice-balling a couple of Trolls. I help him whack them
... end of game. I've had enough of this.

We used to have a guy working with us like this. I remember one day
someone brought in pictures of their new baby and everyone was looking
at them. He walks up and (in all seriousness!) says, "Wow, babies
sure are ugly". No clue. Even with all of us starting at him in
horror. And no, the baby wasn't ugly.

Ah yes, we had one at my old company too... I called him Squid Boy, not
sure why exactly, but it fit... He was a 45 year old PK (preacher's
kid) who lived with his parents, and we were about 99% sure he was still
a virgin... Had some speech volume control issues, and no brain/mouth
filter - bad for customer relations at times. The guy was a genius at
programming, you could always see the wheels turning, but he just could
not focus on a task, always skimmed off at tangents to do some cool (but
unnecessary) thing to the project, rather than finish the main portion.
Played opera and bagpipe music constantly on his PC, at volume levels
much too loud for the rest of us around him, until one day I secretly
switched his CD with a Metallica one while he was at lunch, and scared
the bejeezus out of him - it cured him of the loud music thing, he stuck
with a walkman after that.

And when I brought my son in (he was like 6 months old) he said "ahhh,
what a cute little tax deduction" and then went on coding... Heh.

Ever been standing in line at the cinema for a great new movie, and had
a group come walking out from the previous showing, with one completely
oblivious guy talking loudly about the surprise twist ending, which
completely ruined it for you? I think johns would be that guy...

I'd love to see someones puppy pictures.

And as for why people do it it is because that's how you socially bond
with your workers. Honestly, people who don't understand probably
have some sort of sociopathy.

I would have though that the thread title "G3:FG The ending" might have been a
bit of a clue to be honest. But you are right, having spoilers in the title
would have also helped.

I always refer to them as grubs or pupae, but no one seems to
acknowledge that i'm being serious. Even when talking about my own.

Playing devils advocate here for a moment.

I think the simple solution here is to assume that every post that johns makes
has some kind of spoiler in it. That way you won't be
surprised/disappointed/annoyed/all of the above. Either that or ignore his
postings. But to keep going on and on about it, to someone as you say yourself
refuses to do what makes sense....doesn't make any sense. Just let it go and
walk away. Unless you really do enjoy beating your head against a brick wall.

Just saying..... but some people here just live for the conflict.

Superb. Honestly, I can't see why anyone ever bothers to read Johns's posts.
I just skip to the replies for the entertainment. It's a bit like skipping
John Lewis's tedious links and Jonah Falcon's blog puffs. The comedy is in
the followups.

object and stuff his rules up his very large butt. This post
has already made it to the forums, and I have 100%
agreement as to the damage these flawed games are
doing to our decades old hobby.
