I have noticed that I cannot get anyone in any of my sims' houses to stay
focused on skilling. Eg. they start looking through the telescope, gain
science enthusiasm and walk away. This has never happened before. I have the
second FT patch installed because the extreme need drop from the sporting
equipment was definitely bugging me. I know that it was OK before the patch
because my Treasure Hunter spouse, Brandi LeTourneau used to stargaze and
find stars and galaxies, and now it's a case of 5 minutes of gazing, +
enthusiasm, walk away. The telescope is probably the worst affected as they
still seem to be skilling via books and riding the exercise bike fine. Other
equipment, like the basketball hoop also appears to be affected, as they
will only throw the ball into the hoop about three times, then it's +
sports, walk away. I haven't checked all other equipment but I suspect more
of it is affected by this effect.
Is anybody else experiencing this? I'm going to test this in a game without
any hacks to see if it's caused by a particular hack or hacks or if it's the
FT patch. If it's the patch, I need to uninstall FT, then reinstall to get
rid of it, right?
Cheers!

Either drop down their fun manually (because it's maxed fun that's doing it)
or use Pescado's skillinator. The ADHD is amasing in FT.

If they have maxed fun they seem to abandon it now. If it is the logic skill
you want chess is a better bet as mine will carry on playing that despite
maxed skill. Having your sim skill in something that drops fun for awhile
before you send them to the telescope also works. Something I am less sure
of but seems to help with the basketball and soccer equipment is that it
seems to me that if my Sims play with someone they will not stop because
they maxed their fun.

I think that lately the sims have stronger personal preferences
about what they will do endlessly and what they are eager to jump out
of. Hurrah! reaction things seem to be more attractive than "ahhh,
shucks, don't make me do that" things. But, it is hard to tell as it
is somewhat variable. |

Could be... It's weird. I just tested and Cassandra Goth, fresh from being
left at the altar by Don was able to stargaze and find a star and get
enthusiasm and keep stargazing. But my legacy founder's spouse dropped it
out of the queue after gaining enthusiasm. The only difference was that he
was doing the Look Through action, while Cass was stargazing. I had had a
reset a while back and had not played Cass's household since so all her
needs were maxed. I might have to investigate further but the fun thing
seems unlikely. I found that the fun meter only interferes when you have
certain Dizzy hacks in and I got rid of all the ones of hers (his?) that
were interfering by making actions drop out due to full fun meters.
Cheers!

I just find it weird that not everything seems to be affected. They will
drop Look Through on the telescope, but not Stargaze, and will keep playing
chess until you tell them to stop. They will also cycle on the exercise bike
until they drop dead (I have had this happen) but will only throw a few
hoops and give up. They will also fish until the cows come home or they keel
over from overheating. It's just stupid and inconsistent.
Cheers!

I am ony having problems with watching the ants, and reading.
Stargaze works fine, sewing and pottery also okay, shooting hoops works, and
collecting bugs only works until they get chased by bees. |

Most Sims don't find fishing fun. I thought none of them did but then
suddenly I found a few who liked it. Otherwise yes it is quite inconsistent.

I haven't tried the ants, but the activities that seem to get interrupted
are Look Through (daytime telescope) and the basketball. I'll have to check
out reading as that seems to have changed with the new novel system and the
different types of books.
Cheers!

Most of my sims find fishing fun. They will fish for hours and days even (if
you use max motives so they don't have to fulfil any of their needs) without
a break. They won't jump out of fishing with a full fun meter. The only time
they did that for me was when I had Dizzy's exit-fun-hack and
exit-skill-hack because I didn't realise that "be more open to other
interactions" means: take out fishing pole, put back fishing pole, take out
fishing pole, put back fishing pole, take out fishing pole... etc, etc, ad
nauseam.

Hmm that's odd. I have right now less than 5 Sims who enjoy fishing. I don't
have any hacks at the moment other than the multiple birth one but I have
never had many that like it. Typically when I find someone who does they
wind up doing a lot of fishing so that their family can have fresh food
without the wait. Wonder how your Sims differ from mine.

I think that fishing is the best activity they ever put in there. It builds
fun and it's the perfect friendship builder, too. I once had a child bring
home a friend from school and they autonomously went fishing. By 6pm their
daily relationship was 100, they had built up their lifetime relationship,
too, and my sim kid had caught a bunch of fish as well!
I would say that my sims don't differ from yours. My legacy founder at first
found fishing a fun drain. Until she got her bronze fishing badge all she
caught were boots, which *reduce* fun when a sim catches them. The only time
you really have drastic motive changes with fishing is when they catch
something. When they are just standing there it's like they're idle, with
very slow motive drain. Then they catch something and depending on whether
it's a fish or a boot they will either gain or lose fun. Which is probably
why you say your sims hate fishing. At the beginning they are more likely to
catch boots so they will experience fun drain and thus make you think they
"hate" fishing. As they get better at it, they catch more fish and thus
experince an increase in fun. You just have to get through the initial
boot-catching stage and they will eventually think it's the bee's knees.
Cheers!
