Archived from groups: rec>games>pinball (more info?)

All the feedback on choosing a pin was awesome andreally helped me
figure out what I want...I'm a big freddy fan and really want one
now...love the theme/sounds/play of Freddy..Now trying to find one. I
did find one in the chicago burbs and I tried to negotiate and
failed. It looked to be in good shape, but I don't totally know what
to look for. The guy had done nothing to it for a year and half and
was not knowledgeable. He said he paid 1800 2 years ago and wanted
1250. I offerd 1k because the glove flipper does not work, I went up
to 1100 and had no luck...anybody have advice on value? I played it,
flippers were very powerful, was snappy I guess...cabinet looked
great, sound was very loud and he said that was the lowest
setting...it was almost too loud...rubbers looked kinda melty if you
looked behind it..little lint inside but looked pretty
clean...translite looked kinda weird when power was off, maybe it was
dirty but had some waves, fine when on....biggest concern was the
glove flip not working (but as a result it was fully intact!)...I feel
like I'm letting one get away, but it wasn't "mint" as he claimed in
my opinion...had some lint under the glass but seeemed pretty
clean....it had coin slots w/ burglar bar (he didn't know if it could
accept coins), powered on and off when he was trying to close the coin
door..wasn't sure if that was good...had a few switches in there that
didn't look stock...guess I'm trying to figure out if I was being fair
on price and what to expect in the market today...any advice/feedback
on what to look for is appreciated (especially on that flipper repair,
cost to fix)...my first purchase and I have a lot to learn-

Are you sure the glove flipper didn't work? It isn't active all the
time. I think you have to activate it with the right return lane
rollover switch then put the ball into the up kicker to feed it to the
glove flipper.

Sounds like the translight has melted a little, will probably need a
new one... nothing major.

The glove, could be board related or just as simple as a wire off of
the coil. However, keep in mind that the glove only works when it has
been activated by the game, it will not work every time you hit the
flipper buttons.

I think 1100 was more than fair on this machine, did it have the
rubber soul faces on it under the Freddy head? Did the boiler go up
and down? Were all the claw fingers on the glove? Was there
playfield wear in front of the 2 flippers? How was the display? Were
all the lines lit up, or were any burnt out? The sound should go all
the way down, he must not know about the adjustments you can make to
the game.

Lint is not a deal breaker at all. Remember too, you do not have to
pay to ship it, and basically if you want the machine, and do not mind
paying the 1250 if he really will not budge, then the only question,
is it worth 1250 to you?

Hope this helps

Thanks, that does help, and makes me feel like I asked at least some
of the right questions-

rubber souls - yes
boiler - looked great, lit up nice and bright and the gate worked
claws - originals intact
playfield - didn't notice wearl by flippers (BTW flippers felt so much
stronger than the one I played in vegas)
display - good

is the power supposed to flicker on and off when opening the coin
door?

I'm pretty sure the glove flipper didn't work, I thought it activated
when it rolled down that clear ramp, tried it several times and it
didn't work...also all of the claw fingers are intact, and he said
that glove isn't supposed to move, which leads me to believe it's
never worked-

I'm a total bargain shopper, It drives me crazy not to be getting a
"deal"...I felt like I was being fair and getting a good value at
1000, and not such a great deal at 1100 but I could live with it...the
1250 is more a matter of principle that money availability for me..he
kept saying all pins are 4-5k and he was losing money...etc...I know
Freddy isn't that popular and a horror theme like that is hard to
sell..in my head I figure the value is 800-1200 based on how good of
shape it's in although I don't know the book value....basically didn't
really like the guy either, but am afraid I won't find another that
wouldn't need to be shipped and concerned about my costs to get it
100%, which is important to me...I know nothing about pin repair and
maitenance...but am looking forward to learning how to do as much as I
can myself-

Thanks, that helps-

I've got a month left until my basement is finished and I'm ready for
it...and I can give it some more time...I really felt like it was
worth 1k, and that I was offering a pretty fair deal...so it's good to
have some confirmation that I wasn't too far off...I missed out on one
Freddy close to home for 800 and am still kicking myself over that,
didn't see it till it was gone-

The game should turn off when you open the door. You would need to
pull out the bottom white switch (there are two) on the right side of
the coin door to turn the machine back on.

Again the glove flipper is activated when you roll over the switch in
the RIGHT return lane. The one under the habitrail that feeds to the
right side of the right slingshot. NOT the clear ramp. You can't
activate it from the habitrail, the ball has to roll down behind the
right slingshot and to the right flipper. Then you can shoot the ball
to the up kicker on the left to the glove flipper. The glove flipper
light on the playfield under the clear ramp should light up letting
you know the flipper is active.

I have a Freddy and a manual. I can assist you if needed over the
phone.

thanks for the offer, I'll keep your email handy if I get one and need
assistance...I'm pretty sure I made that shot and it didn't work
(which may be why the glove fingers are all still there!)....now that
I'm looking at the pics on IPDB I'm thinking the boiler front may have
been missing as well (the bottom rose and fall, but I remember it
being very bright, brighter than the machine in vegas)...is there a
plastic peice on the front of the boiler that comes off or is it one
solid unit?

Things to check for glove flipper... The fuse... Fuse 22. Also
wiring to the coil... The driver transistors for the glove flipper and
glove flipper relay, q18 q25, maybe the caps for those transistors
too, c29 and c36. And possibly the wiring to the glove flipper relay.
I had a transistor cook for the boiler room lights and it took out the
cap too.

I will have to open the game to look at my boiler room door. I will
follow up in the morning.

Average Freddy goes for $1133, I wouldn't pay any more than that.
Your $1100 offer was more than fair.

Just wanted to update this thread that I won't need to worry about
fixing the flipper. I'll be the proud owner of a Freddy that is great
shape at a very reasonable price from a RGP member, thanks for all the
advice/suggestions and I'm sure I'll have lots of questions in the
future as this is my first pin-
