Post subject: Finally got NET, but now I've lost Denver
Archived from groups: alt>video>satellite>4dtv (more info?)

For some reason my unit wasn't taking the overnight downloads - I had no
channel guide and I noticed a few other oddities. I did the full unplug
for a half hour and got a rehit and got my EPG back.

But now the Denver stations, the only 4DTV channels I subscribe to are
gone. More than gone I have a signal quality of 1. I've verified my
dish position and skew by tuning in a DVB channel of the same polarity.
That all appears fine.

But as a result of this rehit I am now getting the NET channels on T4.
But I have also lost the many move and cable channels I had been getting
for free for some time.

Does anyone else subscribe to the Denver channels on W1 and could verify
they are there and working properly?

Thanks,

Take care,
Rich

Yes,the Denver 8 channels are fine and working properly on W1 on my 4DTV
920......I suspect you are about 100+pulse clicks off on the arc on your
programming for whatever reason.

Thanks for checking. Maybe I've got tree issues. I'll have to check
that out in the day time.

I have been getting a lot of tiling for the last few days on W1. Tonight
CBS was okay. If I changed channels then the tiling start again

My Denver channels have been flaky as of late. But for me it's an
annual problem that occurs when the temperature dips below a certain
point. Happens with other channels too. Often I change the polarity
from 5 to -25 and then they usually come in okay. During the daytime
(when I'm often not around to do much tv watching), it goes back to 5
being fine.

Been dealing with this for years (was hoping a new cable from the dish
to the 422 would fix this (had a few splices, gouges etc near the pole),
but nope, apparently hasn't mattered). Perhaps the LNB drifted out of
spec. Or the servo motor's a bit weak; loosened up the screws a bit
last year, thought it helped, but guess not any more.

So, could be a cold temperature issue.

That sounds like an LNB temperature stability issue. I had a similar
problem with my Ku LNB. A few years ago I replaced it with a more
temperature stable one and everything has been fine since.

Yeah, it was really acting up this morning, could barely get it to lock
onto the Denver channels, and it wouldn't quite stay locked either...
Others nearby seemed to be okay... Looked okay tonite. See what
tomorrow brings...

Think I'll put the original LNB back in and see if it makes a difference
one way or the other. Not sure I really want to invest much more into
the big dish, as I'm really desiring some HDTV... Denver channels sub
expires beginning of January, hi-def versions are crying out to me...

I was told in another forum that the Denver issue is sometimes caused by
W5 causing interference the W1 signal. I've got a new Norsat 15 degree
LNB on the way to see whether that solves my problem. If nothing else,
at 15 years, my old one is about due for a replacement anyway.

Take care,

Swapped out my old Norsat 15 degree LNB for the original LNB (17 degree
(I think)). Thought it was doing better overall (albeit a little weaker
on the noisy c-band PBS channel, and also on the 125/126/127 showtime
channels), but in its first early morning use (not even really all that
cold) am getting pretty much the same intermittent signal lock problem
(on W1, though not quite as frequent -- see what happens when the temp
drops further later this week....)

So I'm not so sure it's the LNB in my case... guess I'll swap the C and
Ku connections next.

Sounds like your dish is moving according to the outside temperatures.
Check that all bolts on the mount are tight. You may be aimed at the bottom
or top of the sat signal instead of the middle.
You can easily check this by lifting up gently on the front of the dish to
check if your signal increases or decreases.

Thanks, will try that too...

Recall that the first (only) time I had someone come out and look at it
(many years ago), he unloosened a screw or two holding "the works" to
the post and rotated "the works" a little bit. Brought in a better
signal (back when the Denver 5 were analog on F1 and coming in a little
weak (for me)).

Currently these signals on W1 are coming in at around 50-52...
