Post subject: Euro 9 Update
Archived from groups: rec>games>empire (more info?)

We have had our first 5 updates and it's time to give the viewers at
home a brief overview of the goings-on in European Empire 9.

With the help of a coupel of replacements, all 29 countries broke
sanctuary on time. this makes a deity smile. What the players found
when they broke as a bit different than the norm, though to hard to figure
out. After exploring, each player found he was blessed with 19 sectors,
all arranged in a nice little circle. At the center was the capitol with
9990 civ's, 200 mil, and 1000 uw's. The first couple of updates had
power charts dominated by players that were most able to get their workers
out of the comfy city life and into the country side, working the land.

We started at tech 41 and had a decent education level too. thanks
to gifts from the deity, lm's and hcm's were available at the begining.
It was a real slice of player preferences when going into the second update
they distributed these limited cm's amoung units, ships, and tech.

Surrounding the start area were miles and miles of plains sectors
occupied by a few civ's, mil, and uw's. As the updates passed, the civ's
and uw's grew in number.

After a few updates, most players have found and/or catptured a few of
the city-states that were sprinkled in the wilderness. These consist of
a 100% city with 1000's of civ's surrounded by a ring of "regular" sectors.
they are highly coveted since production sectors are limited. And since
production sectors can hold 2000 civ's, every one is even more important.

Most players are now coming into contact with neighbors. There is still
a lot of free land out there.

Drivers in this game are the limited number of production sectors,
the fact the GO-RENEW is not on, BIG-CITIES is on, but you cannot undo or
create "c" sectors, and the fact that bridges are not buildable. (okay,
tech 1000. So technically, they are.)

the first lottery winner in the game is Portugal. He stands 1/2 way
through a pathetic showing by Morocco (a real fodder's fodder.)

The games is now shifting from 24 hour updates to 47 hours. The
games favorite deity is doing 2 things during the game. One, after each
update the tech levels are being saved to an excel file. After the game is
over, the history via each country will be plotted.

Second, about every day, a map of the world is generated. The map
shows sector ownership (by color) and highlights sectors with high population
densities, high military densities, and presence of units. After the game
is over each jpeg will be compiled into an mpeg for Euro 9 - The Movie.

and now for the visitor's view of the power chart.

Players are invited to post their view of the game and all the happenings
right here on RGE. But, if this game is like most other games, they won't.

Oh, and the "Anno of the Week" doesn't exist either. They better start
coming up with something to entertian me or Big Bill will start blathering.

This is a render done in povray modeled by hand using moray.

I have a perl script which is able to connect and create a map in
perl/tk and outputs a povray file but it had some problems with the
return code for 'you have no capital' lol. Fixed that, but it doesn't
color land hexes or add the sector indicators yet.

Sharing BMAP before the 10th update is considered a hostile act.

Phil, thanks for the info. Sorry to hear of your short visit in EE9. Rumor has
it Bungy might be running a Training Zoo session in a few couple of week if
those sim-city playing wankers in PZ4 ever get off their asses and end it
already.

Sorry, didn't mean to be hostile hehe. Also sorry my bmap wasn't more
complete.

It was a learning experience. One which I went back and replayed
several times at 2 minute update intervals until I figured out exactly
how to avoid a repeat of my shabby start next time.

That is so cool. My clients need this for a display mode. Is this a
direct rendering system (OpenGL/DirectX/...), or is it a scene description
fed to a rendering engine (eg. dump * | mapper.awk | povray)?

I'd strongly recommend that you master Empire in 2D mode, before
attempting 3D mode.

Learning from your mistakes is an important part of empire. Pat's games
are not of the usual variety, and require a keen mind to decipher what is
different and how to adjust from a vanilla game.

Rumor has it Bungy might be running some Training Zoo session
in a few weeks, once PZ4 has ended, once the nice players in there
settle their disputes for who(m) are victors and who(m) are not.
Feel free to log into the visitor or peeper accounts and harrass
at will. sheepfarm.game-host.org:6666

Wankers?

Wankers??

Bide thy time. Our neighbours shall glow all thy fine colors of the sun, in
