Ebay pirates

not wishing to be spammy but I have a load of GBA stuff on now which is all
legit, see my post a few days ago

Its hard to tell really! I have not bought a GBA game from ebay yet.

Look at the feedback and try and judge from that, also sometimes it says
will be shiped straight from somewhere in the middle east which I think is
a bit suspicious.
I would have thought any big sellers with a lot of feedback related to GBA
games (if you can tell) might be selling dodgy goods.
If someone looks like they are just selling radom stuff every so often like
your average ebayer it's probably ok.

Thats the only ways I can think to try and get a legit game.

Yep a vote for not using ebay for gba games, its just not worth the risk

Also check shipping charges as normally they are a little more than even the
rip-off merchants based in this country.

But i'd just steer clear tbh

Good advice indeed on pirate spotting, but after successfully buying about
20 GENUINE GBA carts on t'Bay, I was really looking for a way of excluding
them from my search. Getting rid of the Buy It Nows does yield less results
but only by about 1000 out of about 7000 total.

Some good pointers for the future though, thanks.
I could also add, look for pictures that have been taken of the cart and/or
contents themselves, rather than just box art.

Might not be cool but I don't really care if a cart is pirate or not as
long as it works.

I've bought a few off ebay which have turned out to be pirate and never
had any probs with them.

That's the main point: they usually don't. Save games get wiped, corrupted,
or whatever. The game crashes late into it due to shoddy translation hacks.
Multiplayer won't work. The battery dies in them (or, in many cases, isn't
even there even though the game has a save function). Some carts are poorly
moulded out of cheap plastic, so break, bend, or don't fit in the slot on your
GBA.

My main gripe with pirate games on ebay, is that 99% of buyers don't know what
they're buying. Would you be pissed off if you went into HMV and bought a
load of cheap DVDs, only to go home and find they're pirated copies? You
wouldn't even consider that HMV might sell pirate DVDs, would you? Well, most
people don't think eBay sellers sell pirate GBA games, or that GBA pirates
even exist!

I know people who are quite happy to buy copied games, CDs and DVDs, but they
*know* what they're buying. Buyers on eBay think they're just getting a
bargain.

I sold a whole bunch of GBA games last month. To make sure people would
recognise them as genuine I just took clear photos of it, box, manual
and catridge. I dont buy anything from eBay unless it has a photo of the
actual item, anything with a generic pic from the net doesnt get a
second look from me. Its just all about building buyer confidence, and
if the seller has genuine goods then they will be keen to do so.
