I downloaded Sinking Island directly from the Microids web site.
Following payment, I received an email telling me that I would receive
the activation code for my game when the game comes to market, August
12th. So I will have the game for more than a month before I am able
to play it.
I wrote to Microids asking for a refund. They declined and said they
could not help me any further with this problem. Imagine that!
Had I known about the wait period, I would NEVER have bought the game
for an online download; rather, I would have waited for the reviews
and, if it still looked attractive, purchased the disc or dvd.
I am very displeased with how Microids handled this and want to alert
all of you to carefully read EVERYthing on the web site before
purchasing a download. <sigh> |

Thanks for the information. I would be displeased too if I couldn't play the
game for a month. What good is that? I've never downloaded a game. I was
always a bit leery of downloading games, though some companies may be ok.
Still, maybe its better just wait till games come out and buy them at the
store. Was there anything on the website about purchasing the game by
downloading but you would have to wait a month to play it?

Just went there to check and all I could see was a small blurb near
the top of the site where it stated:
"Download Sinking Island now!
Be the first to play at 00:01 on 12/08/2008 when you’ll get your
activation key by email"
However, if you don't notice that, there's nothing on the download/buy
page that I could find reiterating that fact. I've bought several
games by download without issue and I've *never* seen one that let you
buy something and download it now but not get the activation key for a
month. Should be classified as a 'pre-order' if you ask me.

They should repeat it in more than one area and put it in big letters so you
don't miss it..

I agree with you Craig. Sounds more like pre-order. I hope at least its a
good game when Opsimath finally gets to play it.

Download it via bit torrent. You've paid for it so you are on morally sound

Hello all
Well... this game is not that good in fact.
I mean, I finished it some months ago and I've been very disappointed.
The graphics are always the same and you spend your time in going in the
same places more and more.
Moreover the scenario (which wants to look like Agatha Christie's books)
is not interesting, even boring and very linear.
I'm very sorry to say that, because I liked previous Sokal's games
(especially Syberia 1 and 2) a lot.
And to answer the first post, I think it's a malicious pre-ordering and
don't understand they can do that.
By the way, I'm french, that's why I already finished this game... and
Microids is a french company. I know it may have nothing to do with this
stupid way of taking money from honest people, but finally I feel
somekind ashamed...

What happened to Sokal? He seems to have lost his touch. His games Syberia 1
and II were two of the best games I've played, especially Syberia 1. But
"Paradise" did not do well and sounds like Sinking Island might not do well
either. But you never know Opsimath, maybe you will like it better than Ash
did :>)

I don't anybody personally who didn't like Syberia 1. Not everybody will
like every computer game and sometimes its mixed, but from general
observations, most adventure game players liked Syberia 1. Everything I
read about it said it did well in sales and popularity. Thats the impression
I got. Also, I forgot about Amerzone which was an older game by Skokal, but
a lot of people liked it too.

personally, etc. - you probably knew that. My excuse is its late and time

Mary, I did not like Syberia 1 at all. I did like 2 very much. I
finally did go back and finish 1, but still did not like it.

Ditto. Both high-quality games. Although I recall some extra long
conversations that I know might put some people off, but not me. I'm a
fan of great voice acting. I liked The Longest Journey, too, that
had 10+ min conversations.
As far as recent adventure games, Syberia 2 (2004) is the newest I've
played, and I only played it last year. I've got plenty catching up to
do. ;D

Hi Matt, You are really behind the times at 2004. Did you play "Dreamfall",
the sequel to the Longest Journey? I liked it though not everybody did. Some
people said there was too much talking in TLJ but I thought Dreamfall was
much the same as far as long conversations. Did you play Keepsake? Very good
game. As per my message with Joan, I am presently playing Sherlock Holmes
Nemesis and its quite good.
