Hello everybody...
I'd like to know if there is any group of Diplomacy which plays over
Skype or other video/sound application... Like in face-2-face, but over
the internet.
It should be nice to play this way, what do you think about? Maybe
there is some application to "run" the game in background while the
players can talk or trade information along the play.
Tell me what you know about this and other ways to play Diplomacy over
the net, but on-line, not just for e-mail or this kind of way.
I'm sorry if it was already discussed here before but I'm new here,
hope you understand.
Thank you,
Rodrigo. |

Rodrigo, that is a GREAT idea, I've not heard of anyone using Skype as a
basis for game communication, but it should be possible and useful. There
is a group of "Real Time" players, they have a Yahoo Group called RTDip
and I would post your message there and you will get at the 200 or so
people committed to that sort of thing.
Unfortunately, in my experience, too many E-Mail Diplomacy players fail to
see the desire for phone communications and how much it adds to the fun of
the game. I have a long history that goes back into the still existing
postal Diplomacy side of the hobby. In that part of the hobby, and this
is still true, people trade cell phone numbers and home numbers and talk
on the phone ALL the time. Of course, that can be expensive, especially
for International games and Skype solves that problem. I really enjoy
dipping by phone and Edi Birsan is a master at it.
Anyone else have relevant experiences?

Yeah, I HATE using the phone for email diplomacy. In my opinion email
Diplomacy is just that, and any time I've done phone calls during an email
game, I've used up long chunks of time that could have better been spent
composing letters, sleeping, or doing something unrelated to Diplomacy.
Not that there isnt a place for phone diplomacy or real time diplomacy as
Rodrigo suggests... but IMHO email diplomacy is not it. |

There was that one game you and I were both in where we tried telepathic
contact via metal colanders worn on our heads.

LOL You can't use colanders. You have to use aluminum foil shaped into
hats resembling those worn by Napoleon.
Did anyone take pictures?

You can use metapaw-dip to play a real-time networked game. That's
pretty much what it was invented for.
