I recently bought a copy of Europa Universalis Rome picked Egypt as my
country (Carthage), turned off all the pop up game messages and let the
game run for almost 100 game years. Carthage did just fine economy
booming. If I had spent hours tweaking things in the game I don't know
if things would have turned out any better. I feel that a good way to
test a strategy game is to see what happens if you do do nothing. Could
Carthage have easily conquered the ancient world defeating the Romans?

Depends on what era you're talking about... Carthage had the famous general
Hannibal and he almost destroyed the Roman Empire (he "helped" that it was
later in big troubles [Roman Empire]). If he predicted that the Alps had
such low temperatures and if he was a bit more rational, he could easily
takeover Rome. If he would later have the ability to defeat other ruling
provinces, that's another question Wink He would probably be overrun by the
shear military numbers of the Roman Army.

Note that this is just speculation...a very very CRUDE one.
