Post subject: New DC and a lot of questions
Archived from groups: uk>games>video>dreamcast (more info?)

Hi,

a friend sold his DC for 50 euros to me:

- DC Pal
- Sega Keyboard
- Sega Mouse
- Sega Controller
- Third Party Controller
- Third Party Memorycard
- Third Party Steering Wheel
- Games: The Grinch
ChuChu Rocket
Tomb Raider Chronik
Rainbow Six

Another friend gave me his games for free:

Soul Calibur
Quake3
Blue Stinger
Metropolis Street Racer
Toy Racer
Sega Soccer 2000
Shadowman
WWF Attitude (just named in another thread as the worst DC title ever Wink )
Sega Rally 2
Resident Evil: Code Veronica

Here is the list of titles i plan to get:

Rez (hard to get i think)
Shenmue 1+2 (lots of copys out there, but pricey)
Jet Set Radio
Grandia 2
Sonic Adventure

What other titles should i look after?

I also like future racers, any recommendations for that?

What about 2D-shooters? And 2D-Beat'em'ups?

I would like to own the BBA for some NetBSD development, are there any
secret sources for them? Preferred under 100 euros Wink.

Of course i need a serial cable too, are there any source for that?

Thanks for your time,

Karsten

i cant think of any others that you dont already have listed, to be
honest, at least not off the top of my head.

san francisco rush 2049 is supposed to be pretty good. the only other
futuristic racer that springs to mind is POD.

all of the capcom fighters are good, the DC really is excellent for 2D
stuff.

it is also home to a load of 2d shooters, though most of them you will
have to import from japan.

only ebay, as far as i know.

I don't know what they are like but there is also Star Wars Episode One Racer
and the Japanese only Zusar Vasar.

I also quite liked Rollcage - pretty sure there's a DC version.

I'm pretty sure there isn't. Wasn't it a SCEE game anyway?

Fishnoses. So probably.

Which console did I play it on then? I certainly didn't have a PS or PS2 at
the time.

Worth the money, I say. My g/f has just started re-playing Shenmue this
morning and it's great sitting down and watching little bits. The DC's
graphics still look really good to my eyes - there's lots of nice
attentions to detail, such as feet which touch steps as Ryu climbs, or
hands which land squarely on doorknobs etc.

Yes, but I played it on console *first*, and then got the PC version as a
result, and no-one I knew (at the time) had a PS. Oddness.

Was there an arcade version?

I don't think so. There isn't one listed at www.klov.com anyway.

I am indeed. The German title is "Tomb Raider - Die Chronik", english
title is "Tomb Raider Chronicles".

That's excellent: They called their game "Continually die."

Probably it's just me, but i don't like Crazy Taxi. However, i'll try to
get Floigan Brothers.

Is Pod like the one for PC? I had the PC version but was a little bit
disappointed by the physics. Also it was slow.

I guess using imported titles is no problem (apart from getting them in
the first place) because there are a lot loaders. I like that about DC,
you don't need Modchips or something like that.

Too bad. I think what homebrews really slows down is the possibility to
have a proper network connection. I will have a look if there are any
attempts to rebuild a BBA.

Thanks for your input,

Karsten

In my opinion, Pod 2 for DC is not as good as Pod (or 'Pod Gold') for
PC. I am a big fan of Pod on PC but the DC version is slower and
floatier. It's okay, as long as you think of it as an 'alien world
floating sim', but not much good if you are after space racing.

It has got an excellently bizarre and irrelevant FMV intro, though.
