Archived from groups: rec>games>int-fiction (more info?)

Hello,

So I thought it'd be fun to play some IF with a comic book UI, with rooms
and scenes and player actions rendered in panels on a page as they become
available. Perhaps NPCs would show up in panels too, and use speech balloons
when they talk or think about stuff.

In light of the proliferation of comics on the web, are there any games out
there like this?

Cheers,
Nathan

Well there's Redhawk and Kwah by Melbourne House, 1986. When I was a
kid I thought they were the coolest thing ever.

The Penny Arcade adventures have some panel sections in between the 3D
parts; it's actually rather nifty. (You can see this in the demos even
if you aren't inclined to buy the full versions -- they're at
http://www.rainslick.com/ . Not necessarily safe for work or the
presence of small children.)

There was a game called simply "Accolade's Comics" an eon ago for the
Commodore 64. I think you were a smartass superspy type. There were
multiple storylines and some branching. Everything (except for some
arcade mini-games) was rendered as a comic book, complete with panels
and word balloons. I have no idea if it's out there in freeware land
at this point.

Ooh, Redhawk! I remember that from my Amstrad CPC 464. It looked rather
cool, though I never got anywhere in it, so it was a bit of a disappointment. Sad
