IIRC CM:BO had 12 patches - I think CM:SF will come close to breaking
that record Smile

That said : the thing which gets under my skin most is reviewers
trying to hide the ugly truth from their readers. There's this French
language mag which from before CM:SF was even released was singing
it's praise in every issue - mostly because the editor-in-chief is a
fanboy. There's been a CM:SF preview/review/article/AAR/ Whatever in
*every* issue, yet only in the current issue is there a 2 by 2 inch
admission that the original release might not have been ready for
consumption and a promise that the upcoming patch (1.07) would fix a
lot of issues.

In the end this sort of behaviour is not only hurting his own magazine
but also the wargame publisher. Battlefront took *more* heat because
they were in denial than they ever would have if they had come clean
from the start.

In fact CMBO had far fewer than 12 publicly released patches, despite
the final version being 1.12.

In addition and as you probably remember, CMBO was working well by
version 1.03 or so.

That's what I recalled - as current Battlefront practice is to up the
release version with each patch I thought it held for CM:BO as well.

I really don't remember - I was well pleased with whatever version the
retail disk had when I got my hands on it so given my slow internet
line back then I didn't even bother to patch.

Demo's still at 1.07.

The list of things in the patch is pretty long - but can you get back in
vehicles yet?

In all fairness, the "supplies" bug that shipped with CotA was a big one. It
took me the... uhm... time needed to see that my troops weren't getting any
supply in my very first game to spot it.

(But, fairness for fairness, I was playing with Italians, so I initially
thought that it was a feature ^_^)

Yeah, it was a big bug, and we should have caught it - nobody's
perfect. As a play-tester you tend to focus on stuff you're good at.
Some focus on the OOB, others on play-balance, others on breaking the
engine by doing the unexpected or ridiculous (my forte) and things you
tested and found working in build x are often not tested again in
build x+1

The reason for this is simple : I once calculated how much time it
takes in the debugger to play each and every scenario in COTA from
both sides : it was months. In other words : it's humanly impossible
to test *everything* from scratch with every new build.

That said : we really should have caught it.
