..... from one of those ratty free 30 kbs connections which will finish
a 300 MB download in "only" 3 hours. <sigh> but I'm sure the number of
people giving up on such a long download, fraught with connections
going bad after you've downloaded 299 MB, is heavily compensated by
having a DRM server. It's dropped to 22 kbs and 4 hours remaining now
<re-sigh> why, oh, why can't Battlefront rent some additional
bandwidth for their own servers ?

Hi,
So I took a look at the new demo today. I first used a Jedi mind trick
to clear my memory completely of the botched initial demo which
painfully showed a half-finished game and had a fresh look.
This is no longer a broken game, it's now pretty much working as you'd
expect. However, WWII this is not : firepower kills at long distances
and if you can see it you can kill it - and vice versa which leads to
completely different (but realistic) tactics.
The graphics engine has become much smoother, which, given the barren
terrain and blocky houses should never have been a problem in the
first place.
My remaining gripes with the game are now just pretty much just
personal gripes : I couldn't care less about Syriah or fighting urban
militia hiding among the populace - this engine set in a Reforger
environment somewhere in the Fulda gap : that would be awesome,
probably awesome enough for me to forget about the DRM. The next
module will add the US Marines and their equipment - again not
something for me, but the release after that will be WWII again - so
looking forward to that one.

I didn't get to play for five minutes before it froze up. It's more stable,
but it's not stable. No big surprise really.

Well for one I'm glad they are using a theatre subject I have no interest
in to develop their new engine. Here's hoping they will finally arrive at
V1.00 Stable before they start to ship WWII games...
cheers
