Hi everybody!
Last week I picked up this Firaxis/Firefly/2K game with fond memories of
Caesar III and hoping for something similar. I started by jumping
straight to one of the freeform scenarios (Island Gem or something
similar) just to monkey around and seemed to do a pretty good job of
building and growing a city. Then I started the campaign and am not
doing so good.
The first couple of missions were pretty easy and straight forward. The
third one (get the olive oil flowing again) started off well but I ended
up needing a loan. Then there was a fire that my little guys took a long
time to put out, and three olive farms burned down. Happiness was 90% or
above. The people were grumpy about a lack of employment and housing but
I did my best.
Then the fourth mission started and happiness started to really slide.
Immigrants kept arriving and the city grew but most of the newcomers
were idle by my town hall. I built a temple and soon had the three
required marriages. Then food supplies were running low with three prime
farm regions still unusable rubble (after the fire). Money was
evaporating. Some huts were upgrading but not all. I was losing.
In the campaign learning path I do not have access to all the
improvements, just the basics. This means I can't build entertainment
facilities or baths or other things that will employ and please my
peoples.
Any suggestions about what I might be doing wrong? Should I build tons
of huts or just a few? Should I build one of each farm or multiples of
each? Should I bother planting flowers and trees or just leave it be for
now? Should I be constantly researching or just every once in a while?
Any helpful advice is appreciated.
