Only 18 months after everyone else - but at least that means the early
bugs get patched. Smile

I'll let you know how I get on.

Well, my first game has me wandering round almost aimlessly - it's gonna
take me a while to get used to all the changes.

I like the opening era best anyway.

Build a lot of workers. The main trick is not to build too many new
(undeveloped) cities, because then your expenses start to eat up your
income, and if you go broke, all your workers will get red in the face
and go on strike. This is probably ruin. You can cut back on your R&D
budget only so much to cover this problem (this is automatic, if you
can't meet expenses). And remember that religion is the opiate of the
masses (you need one).

I find that one worker per city, perhaps plus one extra free agent, is
enough. At the higher levels, I do better without religion. Someone
always takes me to war before I am ready, for the reason that they do
not like my religion.

Sadly, just like the real world.

Religion is probably the biggest cause of wars and violence known on Earth.

I'd say something like 1,5 worker per city, average, is sufficient. After
the patch to Warlords, the AI civs seem to go mad with producing lots of
workers, but I am not entirely sure it's such a wonderful idea.
A good tip is to find an advanced barabrian city, capture it and, whether
one keeps the city or razes it, get a free worker or two from it.
I have only once played above Noble, and I dont think I'll go back there
for a long time. That the game cheats buy giving the human player advanatges
on the lower levels is perfectly OK¨with me; a game with that depth needs a
learning curve; but my prsonal preference is not for games where the AI civs
are getting lots of help with research and building, and are also under
instructions to be particularly hostile to you.
That is, as I said, merely my personal preference.

Do people while playing the game, tend to prefer founding their own
real-life religion, I wonder?

I dare say the game designers shied away from having a specialist Islam
unit of 'Suicide Bomber'... Smile

The biggest cause of wars was, is and will forever be greed, and religions
are only one of the many means to fool people and make them go to war.

ISTR that one of the scenarios for Civ 2 (Crusades?) had an assassin
unit, which was like a walking cruise missile - destroyed by combat.
IOW, pretty much a suicide bomber.

Older thread, but what the heck:

I always wanted a way to harass the opponent (enemy) without all out
war. I decided to try a terrorist in C3: invisible, hidden
nationality, 3 attack/1 defense, explorer type moves and VERY
expensive (a bit more than a tactical nuke). I decided against making
him a suicide bomber in the first test.

The game I tested it in turned out to be real fun. The unit was
strong enough to take out archers or spearmen (thereby eliminating my
dear neighbors the Iriquois); I got LOADS of free workers by snicking
them off the borders; and I made the Aztecs pauper vassals by denying
them access to their own coal, horses, rubber and incense.

The game was a blast but not very challenging; I had no intentions of
really playing a game just to test the mods and I muffed them by not
telling the AI how to use them. Once I DID get interested I was
behind on optimal terraforming.

I like the idea, but it shouldnt be able to capture cities. Workers
dont bother me, but when they are even creating GLs it is a bit much.
Either a suicide bomber or take away his attack strength and just let
him pillage might work.

I did want to be able to attack weak units escorting settlers but cant
have it both ways (not elaborate enough properties). Maybe a suicide
bomber for killing and an explorer-like terrorist for pillaging.

Anyone ever tried this?
