<rant>
I am getting tired of it crashing and taking my graphics drivers with it
3 times its happened in the last 2 days, and once about a day after the
patch.
I have never had a game take out my video drivers before, this is really
shoddy programming. And I gotta say, as much as I like playing Civ4, its
getting close to getting uninstalled and left in the cupboard until to 3rd
or 4th patch, you know the one in which they not only fix the stuff that
needed fixing from the start, but all the stuff they screw up with previous
patches. Though as we've seen before they don't always fix all the bugs
before shutting down the patching section at Firaxis and moving on.
*sigh*

There's a fan patch on CivFanatics, which significantly reduces memory use
and some users report that it fixes crashes too... Overall, response to it
seems to be pretty positive, though I haven't tried it myself.

What fan patch are you referring to? I regularly check CivFanatics for
news, etc. Could you provide a link?
Cheers!

Harkonnen Memory-fix

Looks promising. Especially if I can run maps larger than standard.
Thanks for the hint about this as I didnt' even know it exists.
Cheers!

No worries! Just knowing it existed was key. There is so much stuff there
it's easy to miss things.

P4 2.8.Prescott, 1gb DDR400, 128mb Nvidea FX5200 (81.95 Drivers released on
the 5th), 2 SATA blah blah
18 month old computer
Just installed the new drivers, had 2 crashes with those as well, previous
drivers had 5 crashes
Yes I have the patch, said so in my rant
This is not a hardware issue Adam, its a programming issue, a game should
not crash and take out your video drivers. I could have a friggin MX440 and
it still shouldn't do it. Simcity 4 crashes on me on a semi-regular basis,
and never touches anything else on my computer. Civ4 kills my video drivers
on a regular basis now, I tried defragmenting ( Drive was a measly 4%
fragmented), Scandisk, memtest, the works, nothing wrong with the hardware.
Machine is at least twice the Recommended Specs, normally runs fine, except
the crashes which seem to be getting worst.
Anyway I wont be playing Civ4 until next patch comes out to see if it fixes
issues.
Oh and I have no other problems with drivers and modern games, Doom 3, Quake
4, AOE3, Close Combat:First to Fight, Simcity 4 Rush Hour, D&D Dragonshards
all run perfectly ( Aside from Simcity crashes, but have had them since
getting the game)

if other games are crashing then there must be something wrong, somewhere
with your drivers or hardware.....
