Yes, and I can hardly wait. I loved the original Col, despite the memory
shortage and some annoying bugs. None of that should be a problem this time.

Not that there won't be plenty of new bugs that we poor unwilling
'beta-testers' won't discover...
BTW, who else here will be buying C4-Colonization?

I will probably buy it as soon as its in the stores in Fremantle I
liked the original although it did have a lot of bugs, I wonder who in
the group will be the first to discover a bug in the new version

I'll wait for reviews in case they manage to mess it up. Hopefully
they won't, as I loved the original.

From the information I have seen, the only things I don't like is that the
Fountain of Youth is gone and that the European screen is very drab: a dark
brown map of the New World with niches and buttons on it for "ship in dock",
"buy", "sell" and so on. And that familiar line of goods boxes at the
bottom. Almost looks as if they were too lazy or mean to produce a good
European screen.
A reviewer complained that when you are in the New World, a full fourth of
the screen is occupied by game functions so that you don't really have a
full screen. I don't know much about that; he may have exaggerated. He kept
bitching about liking the original Col better.
No doubt the programmers felt the Fountain of Youth was overpowered since
it gave you 8 new colonists at one go. But I loved that event, particularly
the music and seeing the emigrants lined up on the dock. They should have
kept it in and nerfed it so you only got three colonists through it. I would
still have been happy.

It sounds like they've fixed the thing where the other European powers
would sit on your doorstep just to piss you off, at least.

I liked the music for the original but haven't heard it for years - the
original game will only run on my old PC without the music.

I can't think of a single franchise which I'd buy on the day of
release now, they've all let me down in one way or the other. Worst
one was the 200+ meg patch for Football Manager 2006 that came out on
the same day of the game. I found out about it /after/ I'd got home
and the library was closed so I couldn't download the patch using
their broadband (still on dialup here).

Yes, glory be. They have cultural borders instead, though they are generated
by statesmen, not culture buildings. You can even flip Indian villages using
culture. They dissolve and give you a colonist, something like that.

Apparently, the music in Col II is a medley of the old tuens and some new
ones. I have haard they are really good.

Weakened, made less good. I don't know the origin of the word; I have only
seens it used in Civ forums.

Nerf is a brand of toys for kids. They are things that would normally
pose some risk but the Nerf versions are made of foam. |

Oh, I see. Good derivation. It's been used about how the English redcoat
unit was weakened from the vanilla Civ IV, how some leader or other was
given less aweome characteristics and so on. It's that precious "game
balance" that multiplayers are so fanatical about. (I miss the old redcoat.)

lol, The FM2006 was a good one, indeed.
But I must say that FM2008 finally seems to be the way CM4 should have been.
For Col.. I'll wait. I remember the original as rather tough, I amfraid this
new one will be too easy |

It takes a bit of getting used to, and winning the WoI is definitely
harder - though that seems partly due to a programming misjudgement as
to how quickly the REF should grow in response to liberty bell
generation.

On a related subject - you can't train veteran soldiers on your
educational buildings.
IMO that's definitely something to change in the patch!
