My issue with the TV Listings guide is that it lists far more channels
than I can receive, or want to see listed. Unlike the TV Guide
listings, I can't seem to specify which channels I want listed.
There does seem to be a fix, I just can't get at it. If I could
somehow change the ZIP code, I would get ONLY the channels I really can
receive.
Is there a place on the TiVo web site where I can change the ZIP code
for the listings guide? Or do I have to change it in the TiVo setup,
and wait a week for the web site to catch up? |

You don't need to make it so complicated by going to a web site, changing
the guide data or waiting a week. Just go to Messages and Settings to
change your Channel Preferences and unselect the channels you don't get.
Depending on which version of Tivo you have, the submenu names will be
different, but the feature you want is built into all versions of Tivo from
Series 1 to Series 3. |

Even more importantly, I unselect channels I *do* get that I don't want to
see. Way too many channels to wade through otherwise.

The Tivo I have, I can delete the channels I do not want to see.

Changing the way the TiVo sees the channels isn't the problem, It does
that fine. But I use the TiVo Online Listing Guide to schedule
recordings, including season passes. I do this because it's easier to
navigate the listing guide on the web easier than on the Tivo, and I
often do it online when I'm not at home. The problem is the online
listings guide displays every possible channel I could maybe on a good
day with no sunspots and when the wind is blowing the right direction
and the gods are smiling, even though there isn't a chance that I'd
ever be able to get them. Remember, this is off the air digital TV,
not cable, not satellite.
So this is really a TiVo Web service question, not a TiVo recorder
setup question. |

just out of curiosity, have you tried the online guides at both zap2it and
titan tvguides? both free, let you specify what channels you want to see,
and both have "record to tivo" buttons (sends a message to your tivo to
record).. I use em from work to schedule my tivo to record stuff.. Didn't
even know tivo had an online guide.. Guess if i already have two that work,
no sense trying a 3rd......but you never know, more is usually better.......

Yes, I've tried them. They don't seem to be able to get the info to my
TiVos. Neither TiVo nor Zap2It or TV Guide seem to care much about
fixing that. |

Titantv guide, not the tvguide....
http://www.titantv.com
http://www.zap2it.com
not sure how they deal with new stuff, since i've been travlling and using
them for years (cable/dish/directv/antenna, have a tivo in the rv, whatever
((if anything)) they have at whatever rv park I am in..... been in lots of
places, and can even use em from my tablet, pda and cell, to schedule shows
when away from the tivo/rv (at home I have comcast cable, so the rv one that
uses OTA sounded like better info to give)
you do have an account with tivo don't you? (i actually have 5 tivos,
account shows them all, but only one in the rv - rest at home) had to link
those websites/guides with my tivo to send record stuff to it , don't know
what you mean about not fix it, for me it works fine/isn't broke, so what
can they fix/not fix if it works? From what you typed above, sounds like
they are unlinked.....
if you tried them before but not recently, you may want to give em a shot
again... (they have made a bunch of changes over time, including new
features) |

Yes, I have two TiVos, both with lifetimes. I am able to remotely
program both of them through TiVo's web-based listings guide.
Tried Zap2It again. Unlinked and relinked the boxes. Tried to test a
recording, and the wrong channel -- one I done even get -- came up.
Then I got this message:
"TV and Movie Listings Problems
We're experiencing problems with the TV and Movie listings areas of the
site and are working to fix them.
Please check back later."
So I'll check back l8r. |

As long as you are putzing with it, back to your q about guide/changes....
Check out the favorites grid, you can add/delete your favorites and get a
custom grid of only what you want to see... wasn't that your q before we got
distracted by non tivo guide stuff? |

Are you referring to the Program Guide on the TiVo? That works fine.
I'm talking about the TiVo Listings Guide at
https://www3.tivo.com/tivo-tco/tvlistings.do.
I did get Zap2It to work, finally. It had been a few months since I
last tried. I had to unlink the TiVo boxes, then relink them, then
change the ZIP code to one where the transmitters are actually located,
rather than the one I live in. That got rid of most of the extraneous
channels, although I really would like the analog channels to go away.
I imagine they will on Feb 18. |

No, I was referring to zaptoit and creating a favorites grid (or titantv)...
both let you create a "favorites", a subset/small grid, and add/delete
channels to it from what is available on the entire grid, and from what is
displayed in the favorites, both have record to tivo on the grid entries
have no clue if the tivo guide can do that, since I don't use it.....
for instance I have a favorites grid of stuff that I like/have (usa, fx,
scifi, etc), and when I move the rv/change locations/zips the channels in my
favorites stay and carry over to the new location...
Seems to me you could maybe create a favorites, and just add/delete the
channels you actually want from it....
fraid I forgot what sort of tivo you have, aanalog or digital OTA tuner?
will it work after feb 18th? (my s1 will die, cept I have a converter box) |
