Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>games>adventure (more info?)

Some excerpts from the review found at
http://www.gamezebo.com/games/casebook-episode-i/review

"Casebook doesn't just combine the best elements of both the hidden object
and adventure game genres into one intriguing whole, couched in darker, more
mature trappings than the average mainstream offering. It also introduces
special technology that allows you to wander videotaped crime scenes,
complete with real-life actors and locations, as if you were actually an
investigator taking part firsthand in an episode of Bones or CSI."

"More surprising though, are actual crime scenes - bedrooms, refineries,
etc. - themselves, which offer panoramic views of each location composed
from digital film stock. Click the left mouse button, and you'll actually
stroll through them in real-time, as if you really were looking through the
eyes of the main character."

Sounds like 3D Full Motion Video to me - any other games that have done
this?

I can't think of any, and now I'm intrigued...

I downloaded it from http://www.bigfishgames.com and because I am a
subscriber, I paid about Usd $7. Non members can get it for less than
$20.

It might also be on http://www.reflexive.com

Would love to hear some impressions once you've played enough and have a
chance.

I already have too many unplayed games as it is but I'd get Casebook if it's
a really good one.

We're BFG members, but I don't see Casebook anywhere there. Any chance
they took it down? I see comments on the web about it not working for
alot of people and false positives from AV software. Just found the
Casebook forum at BFG and, while I can't find anything yet that
explictly says so, it looks like they pulled it and are waiting for a
more stable version from the developers. :-/

I think I read on one of the forums that the problem is only if you have XP.
It works ok on Vista. (At least I think it was this game)

Craig, I found this in one of the Casebook forums:

"We are still working with the developer of Casebook to see if we can
get a fix for the errors many folks are experiencing. I do not have
any information as to when this new version of the game will be
available. I would recommend contacting our Customer Support if you
would like to request a replacement game.

As many folks have pointed out, we no longer offer Casebook for sale
on our website. Once we have a new version of the game, we may offer
it for sale again. We apologize for the trouble and appreciate your
patience while we get this problem corrected. "

As for myself, no problems so far. I'll offer an opinion when I have
played the game for while.

I found a thread on gamehourz that pointed to this game's developer
site which is casebookthegame.com. It's downloadable from there, and
seems to be working well - it's a damn big file (almost a gig), but I
get the impression this is something new. And it's only $15.

Way overpriced! I gave up playing this game because it is too much
like a dark hidden-object game. The acting is better than average but
the 3D made me seasick and the screen manipulation left me frustrated.
